I've starting noticing a problem with feeding Noah on my right boob. He feeds perfectly on my left, but when he comes off and shows signs of wanting more, I go to the right and he unlatches about 15+ times! Sometimes he scrunches his face up then comes off and I notice that he doesn't suck as hard on it.

He feeds perfect on the left and I only have this problem with the right. Any ideas why :(

i have a similar problem with my left side. its gone really sore now and has a couple of splits in it from her latching badly but i couldnt tell due to the pain from the thrush so now im in agony on that side if i try to feed her from it. right side is sore but not as bad and hasnt got any cracks in it so far.

this thrush is really painful too :(

I had a similar problem and I noticed that the milk doesn't flow as good on that side as the other. I got a prescription from my gp on a nosespray that increases the milk flow. It worked really good and my little girl latches perfectly on both sides now. I will find the name of thiS spray in a bit (I'm bf now)

A lot of people seem to have probs on one side. Could it be the way you hold LO, assuming one hand is more dominant than the other??

We've recently been getting problems with my right side too, Kynon messes about and pulls away on this side while still sucking. It turned out i have a blocked duct and now have a milk blister so the flow is slower on this side which annoys him. I saw the bf nurse last week and have tried soaked cotton wool in olive oil left on my nipple and Im now taking lethicin supplements which thin your milk. Hopefully it will work as Im pretty sore!
To check if you have b blocked duct gently hand express and make sure the milk seems to be coming out all round the nipple not just one part iykwim.

I think I had the same problem as Sarah, and I'm also taking lecitin. The nosespray I got from my gp is called Syntocinon and is actually the hormone oxytocin, which increases the milk flow! I got no problem with bf now, she takes both my breasts.

I hope you get things sorted out!!

I had problems with my left and after seeing the Lactation Consultant, it turned out I wasn't holding DD correctly. She wasn't latched on properly, and so the problems began. It was as simple as bringing her around my body a bit more, and sort of pushing her into the breast more at the moment of latch. I knew it was going to be sore so at the last second I was hesitating and she wasn't quite 'on' enough. Once we got those two things sorted we were away. Having said that, the right breast has always been much easier and a much better producer. I believe it's very common. Good luck!

Most often difficulty nursing is caused by mastitis. However, there are not diagnose techniques. In Spain, a research team is able to diagnose mastitis through an analysis of breast milk. Suprisingly, subclinical mastitis is the main cause of pain or bloqued ducts. Search "probisearch" in google and you could find a full data package of information.

Have you tried rugby balling to keep the feeding position the same? During our failed attempts at bf Bertie would be ok chewing my right nipple into oblivion but when I swapped to my left boob he would instantly fall asleep, it must have been THE most comfy position on the planet and it didn't matter how hungry he was he'd just go out like a light lol
