Does anyone know how you go about finding a reputable personal tutor who'd come to the house say twice a week to do lessons? :D

advertise in the paper, or put an advert up in your local post-office window or supermarket notice board.

make sure to put that you want somebody with checkable qualifications.

Thanks Nat!
Sophie, I'm just after polishing up French to a more fluent level, nothing exotic like mandarin chinese or arabic!! :D

Thanks Valentine, those downloads are terrific, I've downloaded/saved a few already. Have also contacted a few local based tutors so we shall see what comes of those enquiries too.

Good luck with the french! I'm a native french speaker and so is my OH. We want our children to speak french at home with us and english at school so they can be perfectly fluent in both languages! go for it!

We have property in France and would like ideally to be living out there when LO gets to high school entry age, he'll be learning the French A,B,C's with the English ones, it's really important to us so I need to brush up what I know, I can get buy, fairly confident etc but wouldn't say a great conversationalist. Still waiting on emails back from the people I emailed yesterday/this morning hopefully I'll get it sorted soon.

Hey any 2nd language is a bonus....with a maternal side welsh family that only recently decided they needed to speak English I grew up with that so that's my "wierd" language, I just can't see what good teaching LO to speak that will be, I'd rather he undertook French so I'm on the case of polishing up mine. There are not a lot of russian speakers in the UK you know, I'm sure you would easily find work in translating at the embassy or something!!
