Yesterday and today I have found 2 ladybirds inside our flat. They have both been quite large, older (lots of spots) and seemingly happy and alive (apart from my OH accidentally partially squashing one of the poor buggers!). I was really surprised as I am sure that this is not the right season for ladybirds. What is also strange is that they were inside where it is warm and apparently they hate heat. Has anyone else been finding/seeing ladybirds at this time of year? I'm wondering if this is being caused by climate change which is messing up their systems? Almost seems like an omen although I don't know what seeing a ladybird in October means.

I know what you mean about climate change Dinksi!

We have wasps still, can't recall ever seeing them this late on !

 Ladybirds hibernate, and will come indoors to find shelter,if there is no suitable place under bark or in undergrowth that they like - they like cracks and crevices to sleep in,hence the reason you seem to find loads at this time in sheds!!
But you are right in saying that they do not like heat......

I have a couple of ladybird boxes around my garden for them to over winter in,and they have started to fill this last week or so.... :D

Dinski, don't worry about it being an omen, in fact its quite the opposite. A ladybird is a symbol for good luck (especially if it has 7 spots)

Apparently each spot represents a lucky month.
If it lands on your clothes you will be married soon, if you are ill will take the illness away, or if it lands on your hand it will bring good fortune.

just noticed your Avtar bagpuss!

What a gorgeous red setter... where abouts in thr black country are you?

We've just recently moved to Oxford from West Mids :D

 Hi kirlykird I can't get my avatar any bigger,I'm so glad you noticed it!!We have three, and another on the way.......I'm in Tipton,I like to think of it as the heart of the Black Country :D

I would class it as that too!

I always think of the Black country museum as being as close to Black country as possible and that's pretty close to Tipton.

My address used to be classed as Tipton , though not quite so near... I used to live in Gospel Oak...just down the road from ocker Hill Asda.

One of the things I like about Tipton is The Pie factory!

As for your Avtar,,we used to have a red setter named 'Copper' when I was growing up... now we have a gorgeous black labrador. :D

:D Ooh,I'm not far from Ocker Hill,I live by the Cemetery!!

so we were almost neighbours then!

I'm a bit further away now though :D

:D That's so wierd that you are from down the road, and had an Irish while growing up - you don't see many of them.I have had Irish since I was 7-28 years altogether,in which I have never been without one.
My Grandad used to train at The Pie Factory when it was known as The Doughty Arms - he was a boxer-Kid Burg of Tipton. He's always in the Black Country Bugle.......I think we've took over this thread good and proper!!Sorry Dinski :D
