I have been taking Lactulose for just over a week now, and it has worked a treat.

However, I finished the bottle a couple of days ago and already the constipation is setting in again

Just wondered for those of you who were prescribed lactulose, for how long were you able to take it for?

I just dread ending up how I was a week or so ago, it gave me sleepless nights and was absolutely agony!

AFAIK you can take it for extended periods.

Might want to look at eating things to help your bowels also. I used to eat Weetabix, eat baked beans etc. Prune juice is good, grapes....

And drink plenty of water to help soften things up.

Thanks Sherlock......I shall speak to the doc and get some more!

I make sure I eat fruit daily, I eat weetabix for breakfast without fail, and I try and drink lots throughout the day!

I also walk my dog etc - I do everything they tell you to do to avoid constipation - unfortunately I think my bowel muscles have gotten a bit lazy!

I'm on it still! I also take fibrogel (which is gross :puke: ) which was prescribed.

For lunch, I have started to have brown bread with beans (my fave! Plus, great for the bowells :cheer: )

Hope you're less constipated xx

OMG Fibogel is so gross, leave it for more than a second and it goes all solid on you yuk, give it half a chance and i bet it would come alive, grow legs and scamper away across the table!!!

I've had to resort to lactulose now and again, i have awful bowel probs anyway but i thik its some of the safest stuff to use while preg. keep glugging the sugary stuff i say!!

As sherlock said you can carry on taking it as long as you want.

It contains no drug, and therefore is safe to use on even newborn babies.

Just make sure you up your fluid levels whilst on it as it draws water into your bowel, so extra fluids will help move that sleepy bowel!

i took it on and of through out my pregnancy when i became constipated and yes it worked a treat
I still have a bottle just in case touch wood ive no needed it
SO carry on using it and LaineyG gave me a tip to get my Son Colliers bowls moving i ate a tin of pears and it went into the breast milk and Coller had a almighty great big poo   Thanks Lainey :D
Try eating pears or drinking pear juice

Sarah

I took it through out my pregnancy up to 30 something weeks where I had runny bowls which i guess many women experience towards the end of pregnancy so hopefully by then you won't need it.
I used to hate the lactulose taste it made me sick in first tri
