Hello!
My mum knits and I took her to the knitting shop yesterday to pick out some stuff for baba. She's knitting an all-in-one in fluffy white stuff, and she even managed to convince me to give it a bash!

I'm knitting a wee cardigan in lemon......and I'm addicted!

Anyone else knitting?

xxx

I was thinking maybe I should try knitting but haven't knitted anything since I was at school- a loooong time ago-

Are there any (really) easy things you can start with?

i wouldnt have a CLUE lol!
it totally fascinates me how u can make jumpers n things out of 2 sticks! its bizarre!

I knit... :D
Done loads for the babies due in our family this year.

I've even ( ) got a little bottom drawer of stuff ready for when I manage again

Im knitting too, although just a blanket at this stage lol x

I knit too, but I mostly knit toys rather than clothes. Usually Harry Potter dolls, pirates, teddies, ballerinas, etc. Knitting is a lot easier than it looks - there's only really two different stitches to learn. I just don't have the patience to do clothes.

I've never got the hang of knitting, loads of people have tried to teach me but I just can't do it!!! So I won't be knitting anything anytime soon, lol!!!

My gran used to be the one that knitted all the cardigans and things for the babies in the family. She passed away a year ago and really miss her.

I would love to learn to knit. She did teach me to do a plain stitch years ago, but wouldn't know where to begin.

Can anyone sugest anything to teach me the basics.

Thanks xxx

It's almost impossible to learn from books etc, your best bet is to find someone to show you - sometimes local wool/craft shops have a day a week where they teach?

I taught myself to knit over Christmas using a book by Debbie Bliss. I have knitted LO a blanket (made of coloured squares to co-ordinate with the nursery) but that's the extent of my knitting. I couldn't do cardigans or booties etc, the patterns seem too complicated for me and I don't have a "teacher" to ask I get frustrated with the books explinations!! :)

I guess a little scarf would be fairly straightforward lol

Snap!!! I bought the Debbie Bliss Baby Knits for Beginners, and decided to start with the garter stitch blanket. Now that I've finished the blanket, I don't have any motivation to start any other projects, think I'll just resort to buying rather than making clothes from now on. Hehe.

I could maybe manage a scarf or a blanket but that is probably my limit

Actually - scarves and blankets are so boring that a lot of people give up after that - baby cardigans are really really simple - and quick. :D You don't even have to bother with buttonholes if you don't want to - we never do on tiny things.

All you need to learn to do is increase and decrease and then you'll be able to make a little cardigan or jumper. Anyone want any help -I'll do what i can over the internet :D

I loved all the "nanny knits" I was given for my daughter. I couldn't have done without them. Looks like I'll be digging them out again cos I certainly can't oblige!

That's so funny!! It's the same book & same blanket etc I done. :rotfl:
Besides with the price of wool (and a nice one isn't cheap) and the time etc you are usually better off financially buying a knitted cardigan etc from most stores, especially the nicer/cheap stores like George or other supermarkets etc.

I used the Debble Bliss wool, as I wanted to follow the pattern exactly as it said, and each ball cost about £5. I was disappointed to find how small the blanket ended up being, after investing all that money and time into it, so yeah, like you said, we're better off buying ready-knitted items, especially as the child will grow out them so quickly. Primark and George rules!!! :D

My Mum used to make all of my dresses and knit all of my jumpers and cardies and I keep thinking I should know how to at least made a blanket!

Might have to ask for Mum's help as I quite fancy the idea of knitting something for LO :D

Totally agree! I'm amazed at the fact that I can actually make clothes for my LO!!!

GO FOR IT Madam B!!!

I'm not going to try knitting - but my mum is going to get an old lady she knows to knit a shawl with 2 ply wool for when baby is born. I think the natural wool is better against baby's new skin rather than the factory knitted stuff, and it's really warm too. It's something all kids in my family have always had so my mum is doing it for Bambi too x
