dumb blonde time... but can baby not damage the placenta by keep punching and kicking it?

i'd imagine it would be designed to withstand all that.
It's just like a big slab of meat anyway, so baby would have to be very strong to damage it :D

eurgh :puke: :rotfl:
of course its designed to withstand it... we wouldnt be here if not :rotfl:

It's the weirdest feeling ever when the placenta slides out a few minutes after the baby :puke:

It looks like something you'd find in the butchers

:rotfl: :rotfl: I hope i never find that in my butcher's
Your right though it is the weirdest feeling ever when it comes out :puke:

gross....you kinda dont realise about all this until you fall pregnant and start researching :? :puke:

I vaguely remember being asked if i would like to see the placenta when DD was born, erm NO! :puke:

lmfao! should of took pics too!

i'd never even thought about what it would look like. I'm a veggie who faints at the sight of blood!! I'm trying to be brave and positive! I think i may have the injection to get it out straight away, i don't know if i can sit about waiting to give birth to it after waiting 40weeks for the baby :rotfl:

Yeah I'm a bit wary of this bit too.

It might be bothering me more than having the baby but it's cos I know nothing about it. Like does it take a long time? Is it a solid mass? how do they get rid of it? will I have to see it? etc etc Also I hate the smell of blood so will I be able to smell it??? :puke:

At least with a section you have no idea.

 had not thought of the smell!

I'm hoping i'll be so busy with the baby i won't notice whats going on?!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: It all smells like baby when it pops out... its very weird... new born babies have the oddest smell and it all smells the same, in fact the whole room smells like baby but I don't know if that is a bonding thing, but even my consultant at the time, commented on the baby smell. Even your waters smell nice so to speak... (I expected them to smell like pee or something) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

you have made it all sound so much better now :D

i was waiting for a scientific theory off you to explain how the placenta withstands the kicking

Thought I wouldn't explain that... :rotfl: Most placentas are firmly attached to the uterine wall. Mine wouldn't come off without a lot of help when I had Tia for example, so the possibility of having one kicked off by a baby is exceptionally rare. Its connected to the uterine wall through as series of blood vessels, a bit like Ivy attaches itself to a wall, the placenta does the same.

If however, you have a condition called Placenta Previa, where the placenta is not firmly attached, then yes excessive kicking from the baby can cause the placenta to start to come away. This results in vaginal bleeding... which you would have had before hand in your second tri should you have this condition However, with consistent and prolonged bed rest you placenta should reattach itself.

(scientific enough :D I can go hunt down a medical journal on the condition and bore everyone stupid :rotfl: I'm sad I actually read them for fun. )

It's really nothing to worry about delivering the placenta. At that stage you'll be so preoccupied holding baby for the first time you won't know about it till it's over with. I think they normally ask if you want to see it rather than shoving it under your nose

god I hope so.

I wish I could just be knocked out for the thing.

:puke:
