My*baby*is 18 days old and I'm not really sure whats going on with her. She seems really uncomfortable after a feed, especially if I lay her flat, ie arching her back and flinging herself back and generally just seems quite frustrated. But she sleeps fine on her tummy on my chest but as soon as I put her down it starts all over again or she writhes around and makes 'aargh' sounds in her sleep. At first I thought she just had wind and gave her detinox but now I'm not so sure, although shes only actually brought up a feed a couple of times. She also coughs a bit and frequently hiccups after feeding. Also sometimes when feeding she sucks on the bottle but doesnt appear to be swallowing, quite a lot of milk coming out the sides of her mouth and doesnt always finish a feed!Any thoughts? TIA x

I took my baby to doctor yesterday and she was diagnosed with silent reflux and given infant Gaviscon. She very rarely throws up but like your baby appears to be in pain after a feed, throwing herself back when trying to burp her and screaming. My daughter also has hiccups all the time. When she sucks but spills a lot of milk is that near the end of the feed? My baby was doing that too, apparently she wasn't hungry, just sucking for comfort as she was in pain. Id speak to HV or doctor. Although it could be something different! Hope u figure it out x

Thanks for the reply hun, our wee ones sound very similar, the milk spilling thing varies, sometimes its at the beginning, sometimes at the end of a feed, I had a feeling she was just sucking for comfort as sometimes it seems like I've only just fed her and a short while later she wants more but then does the spilling/ spitting up thing, occasionally it flies out of her mouth with a lot of force. I tried to avoid giving her a dummy but it seems to settle her although with the grunting and writhing around I'm constantly up at night putting it back in her mouth. Will pop her along to doctors tomorrow and see what they say, just hope I dont get fobbed off as I understand from reading online it can be quite difficult to get a diagnosis of silent reflux x

I thought it would be difficult to get the diagnosis too but they diagnosed it straight away and gave me a prescription. Hopefully it's the same for you. Good luck x

It's not difficult to check they can check for PH in their breaths to check for actual reflux I doubt any NHS GP would tho prescribing gaviscon is easier.. Mine even said she thought it was colic over reflux and still prescribed the meds.
