Juice from bottle or beaker?

Guest
Damien is now taking solids and I am trying to increase his non-milk fluid intake so that he doesn't get tummy aches or constipation. I have been trying to get him to drink cooled boiled water from his bottle but he spits it out. So I diluted some suger-free squash (1part squash/7 parts water) and put it in a 4month plus beaker but he just chewed on the spout and started to cry because it is so hard. I kept trying to see if he would get the hang on it but it's just too big for him to seal his lips round and suck from.

So after all this I gave in and he took 8oz's of diluted squash from his bottle.

So my question is, do I carry on with letting him just have juice from a bottle but keep trying him with his cup, or do I force water, or do I force the cup?

Hi Sami
I've said "juice from a cup". I think it's worth trying the cup - Damien is still small but he will get the hang of it.
I read there that you give him sugar free juice. What juice is it - is it suitable for babies? The reason why I ask, is that any sugar free drinks will not be an healthy option, due to the chemicals used to make it sugar free. You're better of with fresh juice like orange or apple, diluted with water.
Did check out the pigeon magmag cup? It really is good for small mouths - I posted a reply to you in the other thread.
Anyway - I cant think of any other options.
Let us know how you get on.

i use tesco fridged orange juice with water lol cheaper n HV sed it was just as good as baby juic

I would try with a cup hun, i have heard that juice can rot teats of bottles  Not sure though.

If he won't take a beaker with spout try and feed him some in a syringe, i did that with Amy until she was old enough to understand sucking the spout, it got fluids in her with no effort.

I dilute baby juice even though it is ready to drink so it is just like flavoured water, a bottle goes further that way.

I would say beaker but if its bottle or nothing then bottle. I could never get Jess to drink from a flow restricted beaker and went with the tommy tippee free flowing beaker. Havent had many incidents although my carpet might tell a different story.

I have given him baby juice but he spat that out aswell

I intend on persisting with the beaker, but as Damien is only the size a 2.5 month old is hurts his mouth and his lips don't seal round it

I gave him suger free juice, it's tesco's own, it was all I had in the cupboard to give him right at that point in time. Would buy fresh juice but it's 50p plus a carton and you have to chuck it after 2 days wqhich really is a waste and something my budget unfortunately cannot stretch to :(

Fussy baby!

Fussy baby!

With this one ive got the juice will just seep out ( a wee bit quicker than a seep) and that might get him into the habit of knowing what to expect.
These flow restricted cups are a nightmare, they should use them in pubs, no one would get drunk.

I've got a tommee tippee "my first cup"
Brody has actually taken to it really well.

Sami, persist with the cup, but if it's juice from a bottle or nothing, I'd give it to him, as long as its really well diluted.

I've seen 3 year olds drinking ribena from a bottle!!!...which is obviously terrible for their teeth...I'm such Damo will be ok having diluted juice from a bottle for a few weeks till he gets the hang of the cup.

I'd avoid sugar free squash though, as it's full of artifical sweeteners and stuff ...YUK

Is normal squash better for them then? Or should I just save the pennioes and spend out on proper juice?

I USED NORMAL SQUASH FROM ABOUT 4MONTHS,
Dior seemed to love vimto squash just had it very watery
the baby juice is very pricey, or just get a cheap carton of apple juice and mix it with water. to be honest on the beaker thing i wouldnt worry, Dior has only just started using a beaker.

he is still only tiny.

Thanks hun for your reassurance! Felt like such a bad mum for giving him juice in a bottle! The boy needs drink though

Must find a cup with a softer spout! Will look out for your ones Emelia :)

Personally I would get baby juice, it doesn't have added sugar or nasty E numbers in. The more you dilute it the longer it will last :)
If not, buy cheap orange juice, you could always freeze it in ice-cube trays and use one cube with water when you make him a drink.

hiya

I didn'y vote cos Reece use bottles and beakers for his juice. He also uses one of them cups for older kids with straws attached. I give him a different style each day to get him used to all.

I use Cow&Gate baby juice its about £1.30 but i just make up one bottle/cup in the morning and dilute it well. It usually lasts him throughout the day so the bottle of juice can last nearly 2 weeks.

I think baby juice is better for them cos it has added vitamins

Sami how much milk is he having? milk should still be his main source of food/drink.

Do you make your own meals up? if so if you boil apple pears or peaches you can use the water as a drinking water this way it hgas all the nutrients of the fruit and is extra cheep, again you could freeze some too.
