Hey ladies I know it's common for newborns to get jaundice but izzy has had it for over two weeks, they are saying not to worry till 4 weeks but everywhere else it says 2 weeks. Has anyone else experienced it? X

Sorry no, maybe try again if you're concerned? 4 weeks does sound like a long time!

Tom had it quite badly from day 2-10, I was a little concerned and the midwife kept telling me to go to A&E to get his blood checked. I went in the end and it was fine. The doc there said the MWs are over cautious and as long as they are eating and you're getting plenty of wet nappies they are fine. Have you been exposing your LO to lots of natural sunlight (if that's possible in this country)?

Maybe go to the Children's A&E if you have one close by. It was good to go and check it out in a non emergency and to put my mind at rest.

Hey hunny my son developed this badly as I struggled to breastfeed and hospital staff lacked to help me and explain how to feed him etc. I had a simpson baby for about a month and I had to feed him regulary every 3 hours on the dots till the midwifes were happy with him. he sleep continously until he got better I hated seeing him like it. I envy other mothers as they had alert babies and could relax on their feeding routine. In the end he got better just from me feeding him and keeping him in the sunlight when I got him home. There wasn't much as he was born in feburary.

If your worried take LO to A + E or doctors hunny x

If you need anyone to chat too I'm here x

My little boy had it for a couple of weeks or so and it went on its own, they did say if it carried on they would put him under some lights or something but it didnt come to that anyway, if your worried speak to your health visitor again or ring a midwife and ask their advise, I often rang them if I was concerned. x

E had it when she was born and had to go under UV lights for 24 hrs to get her levels to drop. We had to stay in hospital while she received the treatment and had bloods (heal prick) taken every 8 hrs to check her levels. She then had to come out of the lights for 8 hrs and if her levels didn't rise we were allowed to take her home. She has just been given the all clear with the last midwife visit as her levels were really low.

I would advise that if you are worried at all to take her to get her bloods tested. As others have said, try to feed her regularly (every 3-4 hrs) and get her as much sunlight as possible. I know a lot of babies do have Jaundice when they are born and it does go on it's own, but some do need the extra help till their liver starts working properly.

Kynon had it for about 2 weeks too. I fed him loads a and kept his pram next to the window all day and it went. Mw was going to refer us if it hadn't gone by 3 weeks, as he was early it's very common but luckily it went by then on it's own.

Sam had it and had to go on the billibed for 2 and half days which was torture for me because i couldnt sit and cuddle him like all the other mums were on the ward. He was born on tuesday and we didnt get home until saturday night! But it lasted for 3-4 weeks in total!Like the other ladies have said plenty of feeds and look out for lots of wet nappies! But deffo go to a&e if your concerned xxx

Drake had it for a few weeks, they just told me to keep him by sunlight whenever possible. My middle boy had it and by day 3 of him being home the midwife noticed how yellow he was and took blood from him to test him back at the hospital. He did have to go back in but it wasn't severe enough for the overhead lights just the underneath ones. I'm sure your midwife would know if it's really bad enough to need treatment hun but if your concerned take him to a&e and they'll check his bloods.

Thanks ladies she is feeding every 3-4 hours but is very sleepy between feeds that's the only time she is awake when she is feeding. she has gained weight well this last week. going to call gp tomorrow as everyone is commenting on it now. I have her infront of window and strip her down keeping house warm for her but there seems to be no change with the colour since she got it although she Does look worse at different times of day.
Thank you so much to all have replied it's just such a worry when the health professionals conflict information. x

Poppy had it quite badly. I think it went away completely after about three weeks. The whites of her eyes were also very yellow.

Well saw gp today and got sent up hospital where they did bloods and urine . It was horrible cried my eyes out with her wen they were trying to find a vein in her hand bless her. home now they will call with results end of week but to go back if feeding changes anymore and they will admit so fingers crossed ladies that everything is alright. She is so yellow

Hope everything goes well with her results and she is able to get rid of it herself without needing to be admitted to hospital.

I hope it sorts itself out soon!

Matthew has double phototherapy twice and went on the billibed twice before his got any better, each time it was for at least 2 days! It is difficult to watch, and not be able to cuddle them, worth it in the end though!
Not wanting to worry you but because Matthew was so jaundice I had to give up breast feeding and he was tested for galactose intolerance, which thankfully came back negative!
