Hi,

Im 16+4 pregnant and for the past 3 weeks or so I have been itching loads :?. The itching is on my arms, legs, back, chest and also my belly.

I expected some itching on my belly because of it getting bigger, but didnt expect it anywere else.

Ive never had this before. Have any of you experienced this while pregnant and is it something to worry about? :?

Also in the last week i have been feeling some weired sensations in my belly, could this be babys first movements?

:) Hi Rachel,

I too have been itching more so than I usually do,I am allergic to loads of things and am use to scratching here and there, but I have noticed a more persistant type itching these last few weeks. However,I thought it may have had something to do with the fact my back and arms have gone quite dry and spotty, and also the fact that I haven't been taking any anti-histamine.

BTW since writing this reply I cannot stop itching,I've scratched myself in hole!!!

Hiya,

My itching has been getting worse as the days and weeks go past, my skin on my face has gone really dry too which isn't helping matters. I think it's perfectly normal during pregnancy to itch, just another annoying sympton! Don't really know what can be done to stop the itching tho.

The weird sensations you're getting are probably your baby making its self known. I was about 16 weeks when I felt, what I can only describe as bubbling inside, quite low down (just abouve my pubes!! sorry) for the first time and since then the sensations got stronger and stronger, now the little blighter doesn't stop moving and I quite often have to push his foot/heal/hand/elbow (whatever it is!) in coz it feels so uncomfortable, he's have a little dance as I write!

Hope that helps.

Hi there,

Just a couple of questions for you all.

Is the itching worse at night and when you are warm.

Where did the itching start ie on the hands and arms, or feet and legs ect.

also is it worse on certain parts of your body.

the main cause is normally dry skin ( so use plenty of moisturiser). especially at this time of year.

But there is a chance it could could be something called obstetric cholestasis, it is very rare and normally occurs in the last trimester but can rarely occur earlier, so if the itch is bad enough to make you uncomfortable mention it to your midwife.

I went to my doctors yesterday, because I put a post up on the 3rd trimester forum about itching and some people told me to talk to my midwife. I phoned up the midwife unit at my local hospital and they told me to make an appointment with my GP asap.

I had a blood test, which makes sure I dont have that rare thing, and she also prescribed me some hydrocortisone cream (think thats how you spell it). It takes the itching away, it's brilliant! I have bad itching on my feet at night, but it began to spread onto my arms and legs, and thats why I decided to post in the forum.

So if I were you I would go to your doctors just to make sure.

xx
