Is tracking ovulation a good idea???

This is my first month TTC & I've already had a bad experience with dudd tests.

I was wondering whether or not you'd recommend tracking my ovulation with a specific kit or something or, just suggest DTD regularly and often and hoping for the best.

I don't want to get crazy forcing the deed to happen only for the hope of conceiving but equally, I'm a control freak and don't want to miss any opportunity.

What are your thoughts??

Also, if you think tracking ovulation works well any suggestions on how or kits etc?? I'm irregular, I had a 60+ day cycle earlier this year so no idea what's going in ovulation wise.

Thanks

Xxx

If you have limited time and can't dtd every other day around ovulation time it may be a good idea to use ovulation test sticks but plenty of people catch the egg without worrying about when they ovulate

As you're only just starting ttc I'd say just have fun and dtd whenever you feel like the first few months
Save yourself the money and stress x

I like that advice. I just didn't want to be missing something. 😊

We don't half over analyse everything don't we.

Yeah, If just starting and you can dtd every other day there is no need for ovulation tests. If you try for a while and no luck then I recommend the cheap green stip ones from Amazon in packs on 30 or 50 because they are fine and you don't have to worry about cost.

On the one hand is is good to be able to pin pont when you ovulate ans tests are great for it. But on the other it can quickly develope into an ovsession and add to the general stress of trying. Maybe try the relax approach for a few more months, dtd every 2-3 days in your fertile window and if that doesn't do it then try tests? Best of luck x

I used the Poundland OPKS this month, took one every day until I got a faint line got a positive the day after & the following day . You get a pack of 5 for £1 so I got 3 packs just to make sure I didn't miss my chance.

I don't no if people say they are unreliable but they worked fine for me

:)

We started TTC last month and I really wish I didnt let myself get carried away with it.

I test with cheap OPK and can never seem to get a strong positive and now I temp too, but thats just stressing me out because I don't fully understand it.. so now I'm moderately convinced i'm not ovulating!

So tread lightly!! If your cycle is regular and you and OH are happy to DTD every other day... maybe just go with that for a few months.

I use OPKs (buy cheap ones off Amazon). I have regular cycles and know that I ovulate though I don't get any physical symptoms. The main reason I actually do it is that I now know my period will come 2 weeks after a positive OPK. It sort of helps me prepare mentally and obviously saves me wasting time with BFNs. It's a bit of an odd way of doing it but it sort of works for me.

Purdiecat, as long as you are getting a normal AF then apparently that means you are ovulating. I've been temping for 18 mnths! Am happy to help with any questions. I also use cheap opks...you have to do them after 10am to get a better positive...also as long as there is a surge then that's ok. Apparently not everyone has a line darker than the test line as their pos.

Tracking sent me bonkers
I became obsessed. Imagined pregnancy signs. Had a 9 day late period... stopped tracking and everything is back to normal
Understand though that tracking is important if you have something like PCOS

My personal advice would be start of slow and have fun, when me and the OH decided to start TTC I thought here we go I'll get pregnant within a month .. after a few months I started tracking ovulation and researching the best methods .. it became more than all consuming and did drive me nuts in a way ... but when we decided to not try and gave up it happened for us .. obviously everyone is different all our bodies are beautifully unique. Of course I'm not against tracking temping or anything else just I think it's important to keep your sanity it can be a long road ❤ enjoy the process with as little stress as possible xx
