Is This Pain Normal?

HI again, I haven't been on here for a while but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced very bad back pains in the first trimester of pregnancy. For the last 4-5 weeks, I have had pains in my lower back shooting down into my bottom. Over this last week, the pain has got worse and is like a shooting stabbing pain in my lower back. I'm almost 12 weeks pregnant. Is it normal to have this sort of pain in these early stages and does anyone know what it is?

It sounds very much like sciatica, though this usually shoots down the back of your leg aswell. It could be that your growing uterus is pushing against your sciatic nerve which I believe is quite common.

Its always worth a trip to your doc or midwife to check these things out, but I doubt its anything to worry about as far as your pregnancy is concerned.
