to put a single duvet in a cot bed with an 18 month old? Ive seen some lovely ITNG bedding that I would like to get Jake for Xmas but Im not sure if he would be safe or at risk of overheating.

Ones designed for cotbeds are generally thinner anyway hun. At 18months he would be able to kick it off if he got too hot.
I think it would be fine.

yeah lukes had his cotbed one on for a while now, i leave it on loose so he can throw it off if he gets hot.

Shouldnt be a prob hun, at that age the problem is usually keeping bedding on them, not worries of overheating!
