I've just had a 10 week scan and the Ob/Gyn said the intestines are on the outside of the abdomen (which is clearly evident on the pic - looks like a a single loop of bowel) but not to worry because the intestine always grows on the outside and is sucked in and sealed by the end of the 1st trimester. Has anyone else had intestine on the outside at 10 weeks which then corrected itself by the next scan? I made the big mistake of googling it and now i've scared myself with all the information - sometimes it's best not to know!!

Thanks

Suze

Hiya don't know anything about that but try not to worry. I scare myself sometimes too with all the information that's available!

Never google, you'll have syphilis and ghonorreah and everyother nasty - trust me :rotfl:
I think it's normal, I thought the bowels etc were in the cord - as most people dont get scans till 12 weeks anything under that and it's not really that common knowledge, your doc dont seem worried so I wouldnt be

Haven't got personal experience, but I read about this in a book the other day and apparently it's perfectly normal. It should correct itself, but even if it doesn't, it's one of the most common 'issues' and can sometimes be fixed before the baby's born, otherwise they operate immediately after birth. I'm sure it doesn't look very pretty at the moment, but at least you're guaranteed more scans! Hopefully in the next one, the intestines will be inside the abdomen, if not, there's still plenty of time before the doctors would even start to think about intervention - but if it gets to that stage, it should be pretty straightforward.

As others have said, your doctor's not worried, so you shouldn't be

Hey hunny, I didnt even know the intestines grew on the outside! I dont have any advice to offer apart from im sure things will be ok, whatever the outcome, medical technology is amazing these days! Take care and stay positive!
