Just a quick question, does anyone know what insurance companys are good for young, just passed female drivers? I've only started looking this morning and both times have been above 3 grand :(

I started out will elephant and admiral when I first passed at 17 xx

3 grand?????? jesus christ!
my first year was £1100 when I was 18

What car have you got? Cus that can make a huge difference?

Why dont you do a confused.com type place to give you lots of quotes in one go to give you an idea of whether the one syou have found are the norm or ridiculous

i was with express insurance and it was £895 i think on a ford ka which i think was really good. Insurance prices go up every month though and the groups have also changed. But as said depends on your car, for my OH (19 been driving since 17) n me (21 ben driving 2yrs in june) its £2grand on a 1.6 astra x

Bloody hell!! 3 grand!!
Def check comparison websites. I do it every year then tell my insurance company that I found cheaper and they normally lower my renewal for me!
My 1st car was £1100 when I was 19. I'm lucky now it's just under £300!

It was for a 1.2 2007 Fiesta, managed to get a quote for £1900 when I looked on compare the market :)

If I put it in OH's name and add me as a second driver it goes down to £1250, might need to look at doing it that way!

Or even sharing his car(1.3 2010 peugeot 207) because that would be £1500 between us, which is much less than the quote for me to have my own insurance on the fiesta

Everything with cars seems so expensive :( xxx

i think you have to be careful, if the cars registered in your name and you insure it in his name if police pull u over they may question it, as alot of people do it to lower costs of insurance and as far as im aware its illigal although im not sure. i found being on my own on car insurance was cheaper than adding anyone as a 2nd driver. And fiestas are a higher insurance group as alot of young people have them. my ka 1.3 was cheaper insurance then on a 1.1 106 because loads of young drivers have them. insurance groups are confusing lol x

I put my mom and dad on my insurance and that brings the cost down loads i am the named driver and it's my policy but i put them as additional drivers and it makes it hella cheap x

the problem with going on someone else's insurance is that you wont be earning any no claims of your own, which means whenever you want to get your own insurance its still going to be high, its better to try and take the hit the first year if you can.

I would suggest looking for an older small engined car (just find something cheap on autotrader to use as an example) then see what a difference that makes to the quotes, the price of your insurance goes on lots of things including the value of the car
The 2 cars you have are very new for a new driver, the insurance companies will just see it as lots of risks

Lots of companies are wise to that plan now lol so they will actually make it more expensive, its worth a try but it doesnt always work

lucky you :) well in that case its worth a try

to be honest anythings worth a try to get the price down a bit

Wish i had looked on this earlier! I've not long bought a car had to insure it the other day as my first weeks cover was about to be and ended up paying £3400 with admiral as im a first time driver, only passed a month ago!!!

Think my first year was about £900 as well. That was 3 years ago though. Although my insurance now is only £700 which is ace seeing as I had an accident so had no claims and its a 1.6 escort which is usually pretty expensive. Im either going to downsize ALOT after easter, or sell my car completly. :( I found Swinton insurance was good for first time drivers. Go through a site like compare the market ect (try loads of them) as its cheaper than direct I found.
