Hi girls. . Im looking for some support and inspiration in advice. I intend to breastfeed this baby but I keep having people tell me I wont be able to as by the time he or she is born, Harlow will still only be 17/18 months. A few people have even laughed at me for even thinking about attempting it! I gave up a little to easy after 3 days with H so I know I really need to put my heart and soul into it to be able to do it this time.

Have you any success stories or advice with bf a new born as well as running around after a very active and mischievous toddler!! X

I have no advice, but I reckon cosmic is the woman you need! She's bf her wee boy with twins! So I'm sure she has some helpful tips :) x

Hey just wanted to say that if you want to breastfeed do it. its totally doable. I am lucky in that I have had no issues at all so I imagine if you do that could change things. The hardest thing I have found is just that my lo doesn't really understand I am feeding Oscar as he thinks milk is from bottles so its set off some behavior from him where by he is jealous. And also he's feeding a lot still at 2 weeks old so a lot of times ttaken up. Hardest thing is the guilt of not spending more time with josh atm but that's more likely the transition from one to two which I think most mums feel. Don't listen to negatives from others. I am finding it consuming and have times where I wonder if I should carry on but I Take it a day at a time tbh and if I did switch it would be my choice. I am surrounded by family who tell me I am making it harder for myself etc so makes me more determined

Honestly? I'm finding it hard. There are 20 months between my 2. Although its hard whatever way you feed! Its only bloody mindedness that has kept me going so far. I have a similar story to yours. I felt awful - the look in my eldest eyes when she saw the baby was getting lots of 'cuddles' was horrific. I keep waiting for her 6 week growth spurt for when she hopefully will take less time to feed. I couldn't do it without the support of others and her going to nursery 3 days a week.
But each day its getting easier, and I feel ridiculously proud of myself for getting this far!
You can do it if you want to!!

Thanks ladies. Wow you are both truly amazing! Did you both bf first time around too? If so did you find it easier or harder this time around?

My plan is that it basically takes 2 secs to whip a boob out, peeping bottles takes a lot longer. Invest in a sling and you can bf with NO hands - a bottle needs at least one!!

Therefore BF could be the easier option for feeding with another one running around!! X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

I plan to try to bf but obv with twins will be more time consuming but if I can feed them together then should be quicker than ffing them? I'm giving small targets, my first target is to bf exclusively for 3 weeks. I'm not pressuring myself tho, will just see how it pans out!

That's exactly what I keep thinking. I hated bottled making with H. They felt never ending so why not just put the never ending boobs to a good cause instead! X

That's a good idea about the target idea. I hope it works out for you x

I plan on bf again this time. I managed 8 weeks with our first but I'm hoping to feed for longer this time. I've invested in an Ergo sling (we're not buying a double buggy at the mo) which I believe you can feed in. I do worry about feeding our newborn and having a 20month old running around. I think setting targets is a great idea x

setting targets is what i do - basically from weigh in to weigh in at the start - now i have sillier ones - like my pregnacare tablets run out in 15 days time etc!

and one of my friends had twins, and fed them both at the same time for a year!! was very cool to see!!

I set myself weekly targets because I struggled with the amount of time I had to sit feeding jasmine! Now I am quite happy to carry on as long as I can :-) and she still feeds loads at 9 weeks!

im planning on ding it hun, Alyssa will be 18 months old then and i know she will get jealous but im that stubborn i think i'll manage somehow

I've not done it with two babies, but as you know I've exclusively expressed since Aaron was born 8 months ago.

I too set myself small targets, get to 6 weeks, then have basically took it by the week since then.

Best advice I can give you is whenever you have a "wobble" give yourself a cooling off period before whipping out the formula.

I've had a fair few wobbles now and the last one was epic - I even went out and bought formula and told everyone I was giving up expressing. But I allowed myself a week to see if I still felt the same, and I didn't. The formula is in the cupboard unopened. When I have another wobble (I most definitely will) I will give myself a week again to see how I feel.
