I as newborn and my boyfriend, were both over 9 and a half pounds and very long, my mum was also a very long baby and when we went for a private scan the sonographer commented on babys long legs - between knee and ankle are long

So am thinking my baby girl is also going to long so i am worried that if we buy the infant carrier that she will outgrow it too quickly,

So question is to people mums who have had longer babies, how long have they lasted in the smaller seat and if you could choose again, would you have just gone into a 0-4 seat from the start?

Not had mine yet, but am told to expect biff long baby

We opted for the 0-4 from the off anyways. Didn't see the point in an infant carrier for a few months and then spending out again. We hope to use a sling or wrap for shopping and so on. Much more 'us' than an infant carrier in the trolley.

Also we got a great pram/pushchair so I won't worry about carrying baby from house to car in an infant carrier. Just pop them straight into the car seat from birth. It adjusts to 5 positions and goes nicely back for a small baby to go into safely. Britax Ultra Si is was our choice :) Will just stay in the car from day one and we are set :)

Also we will only be going on short trips the first couple of months so its not like LO will be stuck in it for an hour a time. And one of us plans to be sat in the back with LO also in the early weeks if we go anywhere.

my son was in the infant carrier till 4 months, then into a "big boy" car seat as he was just too big/heavy/tall for the carrier anymore. I would certinally recommend an infant carrier, just don't go for the most expensive/top of the line ones (that would be a waste) we got ours, a Britax Rock-a-tot in Mothercare for about £40 - it done us well untill he outgrew it so worth the money. In fact I've still got it if you want it!! :)

my hospital wouldnt let me leave untill they had seen baby strapped into the infant carrier / car seat .

and altho its heavy im glad ive got one as there some places where i dont wanna wake him by moving him or say carry him etc ( like doctors where it might be for you but where would u put baby while you were being seen etc)

weve got a 0-4 in grandmas car tho and its brilliant , she went for the graco tokyo , exactly the same as the britax si but diff colours ( mums silly and likes it matching her car lol )

i will prob still bye a 0-4 as i dont think leland will be in his carrier till 9 months but im glad ive had it for these early days and as it was part of the travel system i got so hasnt cost us more .

Thanks for your replies,

sherlock - i also love the britax one in pink though of course!

we will probably go food shopping together so will use the pram or one of us will carry baby,

we bought a 0-4 seat that just stays in the car, and use a tomy front carrier when out and about, for hands free carrying!

the only time ive seen a need for a baby carrier, was when relations invited us to a restuarant and asked dont we have one of those carriers to put the baby in  i guess it depends on your lifestyle and if you may need something portable to put her down in.

Also, another thing to consider is whether your can is suitable for a 0-4 in the rear facing position!
Somebody posted a link to a website where they told you which car seats were suitable with different cars!
I have a little punto, and none of the 0-4 carseats were suitable in rear facing position! So i have no choice but to have a infant carrier first!
