Has anyone any idea why I need to go into hospital the day before I am due to be induced?

Induction is booked for Sunday. But I need to go to the hospital at 2:30pm on the Saturday?

because there is test and things they will want to do before your section, they will prob do bloods and will want to monitor the baby and yourself just to make sure everything is ok

It's probably for the pre-op check, blood pressure, height/weight etc (so they know the amount of anasthetic you might need) to make sure everything is ok before the procedure. Even minor day surgery procedures will now require a pre-op assessment so it's nothing to worry about what so ever. They might also screen for MRSA (that's done by this big cotton bud thing they sweep around your nostrils...tickles!!) and take a blood sample incase you need extra while in surgery. It just saves time on the day of the procedure really.

Are you having an induction or a section?? If it is an induction it is probably to assess and admit you so monday they can get on with the procedure, they don't do it at my hospital though so you nmay beable to ask if you an go in on the day, hope LO decides to come before then though

I am going in for induction not a section (hopefully)

I spoke to my midwife this morning and she said that they will insert the gel on the Saturday night... thats why they want me in the day before. If that doesn't work then they will hook me up to the drip the next day.

The midwife tried to do a sweep but was unable to as my cervix not "favourable". I'm going to go back on Thursday and she will try again but if that doesn't work I wlil be induced at the weekend.

Doh  I'm blaming pregnancy brain....why I read "induction" as "c-section" I dont' know....I replied talking about pre-operative assessments, i.e to check you out before an operation. My brains fried in this heat I think....sorry!! I don't know why you would need to pop in the day before an induction, possibly to check your ok and LO's fine and it can go ahead type thing?

honestly I dunno why - I was induced with dd and didnt have to go in before-hand.

I went in to hospital on the Friday at 3.30pm(12 days overdue). They gave me an internal examination and a pessary a couple of hours later and hooked me up to the monitor for an hour or so. I started having pains late that evening but didn't go down to the delivery suite until about 3.30pm the next day and gave birth at 8.52pm. I would think that they would give you a pessary the day you go in to hospital but sometimes they take a while to work or you might need more than one. You probably won't be in established labour until the day after. Like i said I stayed in hospital but a friend of mine was given a pessary and then was sent home and told to come back when she was getting regular pains which was 2 days later.
