I'm confused (not difficult lol) about dates

Please bear with me as this is probably such a daft question:

When I've been searching on the net, I find pregnancy broken down in weeks such as week 1, week 2 etc and they have the first day of week 3 as the actual conception which explains why my ticker says 4 weeks and 1 day pregnant even though I know I'm only realistically about two to three weeks pregnant.

Have I got this right?

So far as I know (and I might be wrong too as I am also new to this as you know) the Uk system is to count 40wks from your LMP but i think you will find there is another system (american?) which is to count from conception (which would mean at 4wks 'uk time' you would only be about 2weeks 'usa time'- which is why you might find conflicitng info on the net.

FF puts me at 4 weeks and 2 days which I think is right as I think I ovd the day b4 you did.

Yup your right, i'm 4 weeks although i ovulated on the 26th.

Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period.

To make things just that little bit more confusing, days 21 to 28 would be week 4 but you would be 3 weeks pregnant. So I'm currently in my 38th week but I am 37 weeks (or 37 weeks and 5 days to be more precise, which you can write as 37+5).

Ok i may be wrong to, but when i asked about this, i got the idea it worked bit like this..

you'll be 4weeks 1 day gestation..

i think lol..

Basically i know its silly, because your not possibly 2weeks pregnant, before even ovulated..

but even if u type in your ovualtion date into the sites... it will still say 4wks 1 day..

i'm confused to how this is...

Yup

The 40 week thing is kind of a one size fits all. Rather than try and work out from ovulation for each woman (which many women have no clue about) they take the date based on the first day of your LMP.

I have a short cycle (21-22 days over the normal 28) and even mine went from that. When I had my 12 week dating and 20 week scans both only put me a couple of days out from what my ticker was showing.
