I'm feeling really worried as I have picked up a bug from my OH and have been really ill all day. I have been really sick and haven't been able to eat anything at all. I called my midife who said that I need to drink plenty of water and eat lots of clear liquids but every time I even try to drink some water I am sick. The pains in my stomach are agony and Im worried about what it will do to my LO. OH started being sick on Saturday and is only just started to recover so I may have this for another day or so. Do you think the LO will be okay? I feel dreadful..I am so hungry and can do nothing but sleep.

Really sorry you're feeling like this and I can totally sympathise - I've had 3 tummy bugs now since falling PG - I keep catching them from Maddie.

I was also worried about baby but my GP said baby will be fine and he advised me to keep drinking fluids - if you can't keep a full glass down then just have a few sips at a time, but in 10 minute intervals - it's a bit tedious but your tummy should tolerate a small amount at a time without making you sick. He also recommended drinking diarolyte which will rehydrate you and replenish your minerals. He also told me I could take paracetamol to ease the pain of the cramps.

All doctors have different advise though, so you could try phoning your surgery and asking for a GP to call you back.

Hope this helps - and hope you get well soon

Thanks for the reply.

Thats put my mind at ease. I will try to keep sipping water.

I felt so bad when talking to the midwife today I just wanted to get off the phone asap.

Fingers crossed it clears up soon xx

Yeah I think most of us had this at some point over the last 6 weeks or so.

Again, you need to keep drinking water, even if you are bringing it back up.

LO should be fine, but if it goes on more than 48 hours I would go to Drs.

if u cant hold down water, u should call ur doctor or nhs direct. u could be dehydrated. hope ur better soon

posted a similar thing yesterday 'hygiene awareness' I know just how scary it can be as all you can think of is oh my god if i feel this awful what must my poor baby be feeling.
I didn't hold off on going to the doctors I went after a straight seven hours of throwing up and diarrhoea (scary to be waiting in a waiting room with those symptoms!) and stomach pains too. Doc quickly assured me that the only possible affect it may have on the baby is the dehydration: the bug or food poisoning itself will not reach the baby as the placenta will filter it out....
My advice would be to see your GP as soon as you are able if only to put your mind at rest. They gave me a drip which was horrid but made me feel much much better after only two hours.
Hope you are soon feeling much better, look after yourself
