...How many pessaries did it take to work?

I'm getting induced Friday morning with a pessary, if the first one doesn't work, they'll do another 6 hours later etc.

My Mum's been on the phone to everyone (all my family and family friends etc) and the conversation ALWAYS goes like this;

"Dannii's going to be given a pessary Friday morning, that first one probably won't work so she'll be given a second 6 hours later, she'll probably be holding Evie by Sunday"

Does it really take THAT long?! :(

This is turning into a whinge, but why can't she just say "Dannii's being induced Friday" ?! :wall:

1 is all it took for me but it was my 4th baby so my body had been through labour before.

Hi i was induced with my son, i only had 1 pessary at 9am and gave birth at 6.15pm. I hope all goes well for you

i'll answer you honestly hon - i'd do it all again in a second if i had to, its so very worth it

it took 3 pessaries for me, and even then it nearly didn't work... my induction started at 40 weeks - i had my first pessary at 11pm on monday

then my 2nd pessary at 6am tuesday. then there was a 24 hour wait before they could do a 3rd pessary.

my 3rd pessary was early weds morning. i had 4 sweeps between mon-weds (the pessaries can make you quite sore, so these got progressively more painful)

i finally dilated enough by 11am weds (about 1cm lol) to have my waters broken - i was given an hour to see whether contractions would start on their own but they were only mild and sporadic, so i was started on syntocinon at midday.

keep a very open mind about pain relief; the contractions were so intense from the word go that in retrospect i really wish i'd had an epidural sooner - but i only went from 1cm to 3cm in the first 6 hours - it might not take you that long  i was in established labour for 16 hours in total, although i only had to push for 20 minutes.

connor finally arrived at 3.54am on thursday - 53 hours after my first pessary...

Well I thought I had had 4 or 5 before being put on the drip, but after reading my birth story... I had 3.

I was induced at 4pm on Thursday and finally had her at 2.32am Sat.

The first one did nothing for me except make my cervix a bit more favourable but as my waters had gone they didn't give me any more chances with it and put me straight on the drip. The woman in the bed next to me for induction (who kindly talked me through her experience too  ) had strong contractions within hours of having the first pessary.

3 pessaries - 53 hours after the first - just like Purple13!

First at 8.30am Thurday, he arrived 1.30pm Saturday :)

I just had 1 pessary at 9.30am and had baby at 6.30pm. :)

1 pessery and daughter born less than 3 hours later but she ws my third.

I had 3 pessaries. No.1 was administered at about 3:30pm on the Wed, my labour didn't start until about 9pm on the Thur. I had a total of 3 pessaries.

My advice is to relax as much as you can after the pessary and the monitoring you'll have. Have a bath, relax, etc. I was anxious and I think it probably contributed to the fact it took so long to get going as once I got home and went in the bath my waters went within 20 mins.

Hey Honey

I had 2 i think 9am Monday morning then one about 3 i think then i had the drip. Ruby was born 8.45 Tuesday. They didnt give me the drip til 12 than night though, thats when it all started happening.

Goodluck

I had one which got me going enough for them to break my waters and then it all kicked off after that. Diamorphine slowed my contractions down so was put on the drip and had her not long after.

Just the one for me at 3pm Sunday, I was ready for labour suite by 8am Monday morning but I needed my waters broke.

I had one pessary at 11am and when they examined me at 5pm I was apparently having mild contractions, although I couldn't feel them, so they didn't give me any more. My waters broke at about midnight and I was 4cm by 3am.....they still put me on the drip though, not sure if they do that anyway - I guess it just depends how quickly things progress xx

one pessary at whatever time it was, which got things going but 6 hours later was examined and only 1/2 cm dilated, had 2nd one and that kicked everything off straightaway...had a nice build up to it all...though he was back to back and that's a whole different story...
