Girls,
I went to see a hypnotherapist yesterday as I'm terrified of flying and am going to visit my brother in America on the 5th August.
He charged me £185 for an hour!! I did know that before hand but decided that if he could fix me that it would be money well spent.
Well...
This fellow is in Harley Street so I stupidly expected him to be good. He sat me in a chair and told me to close my eyes then spent an hour telling me:
* His wife was in to kick boxing :|
* He loves Steve Coogan :?
* He used to drive a 4x4 but now his kids have grown up, he's got a sports car
* How Derren Brown performed his russian roulette TV programme :?
* How one of the men he treated had seen his friend burn to death on an oil rig
* How he treated one woman who'd dreamt she had massacred her children

I could go on!

He swore throughout the session - 'F**k this' and 'F**k that' and at one point when I asked him if I could ask a question, he told me he had DUCT tape he could use on me if necessary!

I was honestly scared! Wrote out my cheque like a frightened rabbit at the end and scarpered home to my husband and cried for half an hour.

Any ideas on what I could do? Can I stop the cheque or is that illegal?

Sort of beginning to see the funny side now but REALLLY! I don't want anyone else to have to go through that!

 I would stop the cheque and report him!!!!!

I am sure you can cancel cheques if you are not happy with a service

Sounds very dodgy to me, i would have been freaking out

I am sure that he should be registered with some one, if not i doubt he would do owt if you stopped cheque

I wouldnt of wsrote the cheque in the first place!!! what a rip off merchant, cancel the cheque and inform the police that he is a scammer and you only wrote the cheque because you were scared!!! and also mention the duct tape thing. Then you definatly wont have to pay!

Definatley stop the cheque and report him, if you dont he can keep scamming others.

OMG  I agree with the others. Don't let him get away with it. What an ar*e

What a c*ck!!
And extorsionate (sp?) prices??
The hypnotherapist i was going to go to charged £25 for the initial session (like a get to know you session) then £35 a session after that.

I would definately ring the bank and try to get the cheque cancelled?
Did you do the cheque guarantee card thing? The bank may charge you to stop the cheque, but no way would i let that rip off muppet get my money.. no wonder he's got a sports car scaring people into paying him to get out!!!

And i also agree with the reporting it to the police...

Lucy my boss is a qualified hypnotherapist who does it in his spare time. let me ask him about this as i know there are boards that you can report to etc. will be in work this afternoon so will try to post back while at work hun.

this def sounds out of order - i'd stop the cheque if you can aswell.

STOP THE CHEQUE!!!!!

What an arsehole.... there all loads of people like him that get away with stuff like that!!

Years ago whilst living in London, I decided to go to a SA dentist after a few scary situations with others. My son was 3 weeks old and I had to have a back tooth extracted which another dentists buggered up!
Anyway - cut a long story short, this dentist very nearly damaged a main nerve in my face. He broke the tooth level to the gum, swore continously and chased my husband out whilst tugging my head back and forth with my mouth wide open!

I was hysterical and thought I was going to die with pain. The next morning early, I was admitted to Hammersmith hospital to have to root surgically removed under anethestic!! I was traumatised and still scared of dentists to this day!

My biggest regret - NOT REPORTING HIM!!!!! It still upsets me that I didn't, so don't make the same mistake Lucy - *******s like that should be locked up!!!!!!
It is NOT illegal to stop the cheque - he needs to be expossed!!!

Good luck - this is all you need!!

Do that, do it!. Bloody hell, Ive been to a hypnotherapist and it was nothing like that. This guy shouldnt be practising and as for the duct tape, thats almost like sugesting he would do something wrong to you.

Dont let it put you off going to someone else though, my experience was very positive and worked 100%. She was a just a wee woman in a small room.

Thank you all for your replies.
Well, I have cancelled the cheque.
I'm also going to report him because I'd hate for someone who is more vulnerable than me to be put in the same position.
It was SCARY! I honestly started wondering about whether I was going to get out of there in one piece!
Will keep you posted! Lx

Well done Lucy!!!
I hope that he gets what he deserves!!

hi Lucy

just spoke to my boss - he was shocked and said for a start £185 sounds way too high, and generaly sounded very unproffesional. he would expect him to try to find the root casue of the problem - try to find what has happened to make you afraid of flying - its only when you deal with that root cause that you can try to cure the fear.

he is looking up the address of the board that regulates them for you. did he have qualifiactions that you noticed? or did he give you a card with them on or anything? just that it can all depend on where he got his qualifacations etc as to whether they can do much.

he also asked if you'd mind telling me his name - he knows someone who practices in Harley Street (he says there are several that all work from No 10?) and was going to see if his friend knows this guy. you can pm me if you want hun.

Glad you got the cheque stopped

good luck with the next steps, sounds like Em is hot on it for you!!!

Em is on the case!! Thanks Em - I've PM'd you.

What a hypnonutter. I remembered that he stunk of fags and his whole room smelt of them. Can't be that good at hypnosis or he wouldn't be smoking!

Thanks everyone!
I feel a bit better knowing that at least I haven't coughed up all that money now.
