... and told my OH Id get my mum to be my birthing partner. I didnt mean it. I need to back pedal.

Ive been researching hypnobirthing and was telling my OH about it, and he seemed really keen and said go for it, how much does it cost, I said I guess around 200 quid but you have to contact the local class.

He actually said these words "pah, forget it, we're not WASTING £200, you can just get a relaxation music CD"

If he was the one giving birth we'd be remortgaging the house to make sure he had everything he needs. Im so nervous that its going to be awful, I want to do whatever I can to make it a good experience and after reading the website I thought it would be really good for us as a couple cos he would be invovled too.

I feel like he thinks I should just suffer so that we can save money.

God, I have to stop coming on here and ranting about my OH but Im so ANGRY!!!!

og dear although 200 is alllllot!!!!!!! i would just read up on techneques ect and then go from there im happy i didnt blow £300 on a birthing pool for my youngest as i ended up having a c section :rotfl: x x x x

He said the wrong thing hun  He needs to understand that you are anxious about giving birth and should help support your decision, it wouldnt be a waste.. Yes it's pricey but if it's what you want then it's definitly something you could save for.. When you have calmed down, try to explain to him why you said what you did.. And this is what we're here for  Rant away hun its better out than in xxxx

yes rants are always good if he wont let you you could always just buyt it anyway hehe or invest in a tens machine they are ment to be good im going to get one when i get pregnant i had one with my first £100 and then sold it wish i didnt now i could have used it with alex (forgot i had it with first haha so was never used lol)

Why don't you use the £190 grant on it :) Everyone is entitled and then it won't cost him anything :yay: You can apply at 25 weeks :)

^^^^ good thinking batman!! yes thats a great idea :yay: x x

I agree :yay: Sounds like a problem solved I say :) xx

Men rarely engage their brains before speaking - they are naturally insensitive! They cannot possibly understand all of the emotions a woman feels during pregnancy and what we think about all the time - so much to process for us let alone them! :)

I'm doing a hypnobirthing course and its £180 - I think that's the standard charge in the UK with the proper licensed practitioners. It's for 12 hours so it's not that expensive. My OH has been blown away already and we've only had one session. The information that they give to partners is invaluable in helping you to keep focused during labour.

I'm spending my HIP grant on it. That's what it's for so win-win!

Ooh well 180 quid is better than I thought then, the website is quite vague!! How are you finding it? I had thought it would be a good idea cos it would be a constuctive way for OH to help.

Maybe we'll discuss it when he gets home. I dunno I think Im still annoyed with him about the chicken. And he hasnt asked work for time off for our scan which is a week tomorrow.

I hate hormones. I was about ready to leave him last night to go it alone, a bit extreme I think, in hindsight but :mad:

I want one of those men from romantic comedies who always know what the right thing to do/say is. hmph.

It's brilliant and my OH is very impressed. He said he went into the last birth (his first) without much thought for what it would be like etc and he found it traumatic and was like a rabbit in the headlights. He thinks this is going to make a big difference to this labour. He actually said the first session was better than all the antenatal/parent craft classes we went to put together. The tell you about pain relief etc at those classes but the into to hypnobirthing is about the physical way in which your muscles work and how the relaxation techniques work with your body rather than allowing fear and tension to work against it. While he's an educated man (geo-politics graduate) he's a cricket/rugby playing, beer drinking bloke so I'm pleased he's getting as much out of it as he seems to be already :D

sounds perfect for my bloke, very academic, not much practical application of IQ when it comes to relationships though! I really dont think he's considered how scary it will be for him, its his first too so maybe he thinks he will be able to pace the corridoor, smoke his pipe and check his pocket watch before a nurse bursts out and says "its a girl/boy, mother and baby doing fine" then he will nod politely and go and open his best scotch with his chums to celebrate. Boy has he got a shock coming his way! I might make him watch some birthing videos on youtube!

I tried to get my hubby to read stuff and watch stuff but he just went in blind. I know he wishes he hadnt...he said as much to the other couple doing the classes with us. It's their first and OH was saying to the bloke how he wished he been more prepared and had something practical he could do to help. Hypnobirthing gives them a central role really.

Whats that film where they tie them to a chair and pin their eye lids open to make them look at something?....

my hubby is like ur oh a proper tightwod with money  but when they think something is worth £200 they'd get it straight away without even asking, when i mention what he's like he classes it as moaning so i just end up shutting up now and let him get on with it :rotfl:.

I would use the grant money :yay:x

Yeah cant really do it if he's not on board! He's found hte book and CD online and offered to buy it for me. might be a good compromise

If you can get him to read the book you'll be a long way in the right direction :)

Awesome! I'll go with the compromise for now then, he'll like reading and learning about it too. :) Ill let you know how it goes x
