i am constantly uncomfy, after hearing your not supposed to lay on your back due to it cutting off the bloody supply to baby i have been sooo paranoid about it i even made OH wake me up if he found me laying on my back, which happened loads last night so i hardly had any sleep plus had tummy ache - grrrrrr - i feel so tired today :(

anyone else the same?

I didnt know lying on your back cuts off the blood supply to the baby!!!!

I am soooooo uncomfortable in bed too. I normally sleep on my tummy, which is obviously a no-no, and now I find out I cant lie on my back either? Oh noooo... I had a feeling it wasnt the optimal position as I found my heart was beating really fast when lying on my back, and I could feel my pulse in my hands and fingers.

To top it all off, my DH is snoring so much lately and I end up getting out of the bed and going to the spare room just to get some rest! :(

In other words, I am feeling your pain MissGobby... :)

it's really not as bad as it sounds!!!
you can lie on your back, your body will move you if there is a big problem with blood supply to the baby.

i sleep in whatever way is comfortable to me. i would much rather get a rested nights sleep than be paranoid and knakered in the morning cause i was so worried about sleeping on my back!!!!

i love lying on my back to fall asleep at night, mainly because i have my hands on my bump and i love the feel of it. i dont get many kicks so its a nice reminder!

You will move if blood supply is cut off, trust me!! I woke up on my back this morning and Tally is a lot bigger then your baby is atm.

If shes in a funny position i feel faint and move automatically. You dont need waking constantly, especially when if your very lucky (or not) you'll be doing the 10 toilet trips a night like i am atm.

Your midwife gets you to lie on your back during appointments and the hospital staff do to.

Your body lets you know when you shoudlnt be doing things

As everyone else has said above, your body will tell you when you are in a bad position so let your oh and yourself get some sleep while you can!
If anything, try getting a small wedge pillow to put behind you if you're worried, I use a squeeezie pillow so I'm not completley flat and it supports my lower back.

Got this from another website- I'll pm you the full link.

Best intentions (and nightly get-comfortable rituals) notwithstanding, you can't always control what pose your body strikes in your sleep. If you wake up on your tummy or your back — don't worry — absolutely no harm will come to your baby. That you woke up in the first place is probably your pregnant body's way of telling you to change positions (and maybe that it's time to pee again). So (after your trip to the bathroom) just haul yourself back into position — which at this point is probably no small undertaking (relocate four pillows, swing over the legs and belly, push out buttocks, rearrange the pillows…are you comfortable yet?).

If you lie on your back the baby could lie on the placenta which could reduce the blood flow but as everyone else has said your body will wake itself up if there's any danger at all to either you or the baby.

The main problem with lying on your back isn't with the baby....it's that the baby could lie on one the main areries that takes blood to your legs and you'd end up with pins and needles in your legs and feet due to the reduced blood flow. You'd soon wake up if that happened.

I sleep however I feel comfortable...plus, as soon as I fall asleep I don't know what's happening either so I could end up in any position!

As Midna said - it's advised to try not to but hey if it happens it happens! Me, i'm just grateful if i manage to sleep! Who cares whether it's on my side, my back or hanging up by my feet (which i have yet to try).

We're programmed to look after our LOs so we'd soon know if we were doing something 'wrong'!

My wife has one of those long sausage pillow things that you can get from mothercare - when LO is born they also turn into something to help breastfeeding, as well as being something you can put around the baby to help them sit up. She is using it as something to make sleeping on her side more comfy - maybe try one of them?

Here is a link - the woman in the picture looks comfortable enough!!!! :D

Pillows do jsut as good a job and you can get 2 basic ones for £3 from matalan, they dont have to be nice ones cos you'r only using them on bump, i have one for each side so when i roll i dont have to drag the pillow, i kinda rest bump on them, then i put one between my legs, not sure why but it seems to help me. Cheap and easy

I love my wedge pillow from Mothercare and can't sleep wthout it now. I even took it to Gran Canaria with me
