two weeks ago James measured in at 11 lb 2oz and then at the next weigh in dropped to 10 lb 11 oz.

I wasn't overly concerned at first cos we had some troubles whilst I was in hospital having an op and he was given some EBM and some formular when I couldnt feed him. Once I got home we had a bit of trouble getting him to go back on the breast but we seemed to have cracked it.

Yesterday he weighted in at 10lb 5oz after a couple of bad days. He seemed to feed ok at night but wouldn't take anything in the day and was screaming at the breast. Dr seems to think he's ok and suggested trying formular. We aren't having much luck so far but am going to make a bottle up to take to bed and want to know how are you ladies doing this?

Can I make up a bottle and top up with hot water from a flask when he wakes? Do I use cooled boiled water as you would normally less 1oz and top up with 1oz hot? Please tell me what works for you

Thank you very much!

Hey hun,

No idea on the making up of formula, but I'm confused to why they have suggested this to you. Are you ready to move to formula or do you feel pushed due to your baby's weight loss?

If you feel pushed and aren't ready to switch completely or mix feed, I'd be tempted to bed in for a couple of days with your baby (go to bed with snacks, drinks, DVDs, magazines, books) and take Mother's Milk Tea and Fenugreek to boost your milk supply and to encourage him to feed (lots of skin to skin and cuddles).

Sorry I didn't help with your question, I just wanted to help you to continue to breastfeed in case you feel bullied by medical professionals.

That's what we do and it works great for us.

That is what we do also and it works great, no messing with having to heat it up or cool it down, usually right temperature which is great when they are screaming for a feed

Also exactly what we do. Out of interest, do you ladies add the powder when you add the extra 1oz of boiling water?

I have the bottles made up with about half the water I need, I add the boiling water to make it up to the right amount and then add the powder :)

Same here. I put cooled boiled water in the bottle and when I need, add the right amount of hot.

 I just make up the water we need and add the powder when I give her the bottles. We have powder dispensers so I can measure out in advance.

Evie doen't like her bottle warm- she'll only have it at room temp

thanks for the messages ladies and valentine - your post does help because you are right thinking the problem is really the health "pros" pushing me to change because of the weight loss although i really I don't want to.

I was so relieved that the three or four bottles I tried him with got the same screaming reaction as the breast did! I persevered offering the breast and we seem to be getting back on track thank god!

That's brilliant news heles! I didn't want to offend you or try to push you into persevering with b/feeding but was hoping to help if you did want to do this.

It will get better, I know it. Just keep doing the fab job you are doing and try not to worry about the weight, unless he's unwell, its just a number.
