I'm 9 weeks pregnant with hyperemesis. I only ate watermelon today since I feel so rough. It came up 4 hours later and burnt my throat like crazy. I specifically ate it because it's not acidic! I'm not currently suffering indigestion as far as I know.

Is there anyway to stop it from being so strong that it burns? Will it help if I eat Rennie or drink some gaviscon when I start to feel nauseous? Any tips?

Thanks.

It's your stomach which produces the acids, not the food you eat.
I have no advice as I don't have experience with hyperemesis. Maybe you could talk with your GP to see what you can and cannot take during pregnancy.
Good luck!x

I’ve no experience but presume your GP can provide something. Have you tried drinking milk early in the morning as that is said to line your stomach? Might help but I’m just guessing.

There is a tablet you can take which lines your stomach and should make it less acidic but not sure if it’s for use in pregnancy.

Alternatively, the only other thing I can think of is do your best to drink as much water as possible.

It’s also possible that you may have acid reflux going on (in general) which your doctor should be able to help you with.

Fellow hyperemesis sufferer here I’ve been lucky in that it’s improved a lot in the past week (so from 13 weeks from me), so hope it settles for you soon.

My method of making the vomit less acidic was to down water just before I knew I needed to throw up. I kept one beside my bed at all times and knocked a few gulps back just before I needed to be sick. Then I mainly threw up watery mush and that was so much better than the acidic bile and regular vomit.
