I was gonna make beef & veg pie and Ive made the filling and realised that I forgot to defrost the pastry (not an option to make my own at this hour Im afraid!)

So I was thinking about hotpot, (I think) you know where theres sliced potato on the top but Ive never made it except in ready meals. Do you need to parboil the potatoes or just slice and chuck them on raw. Can I do thick slices or more than 1 layer cos theres not much other carbs in the meal.

I do this in the slow cooker and do so from raw but you can part boil before adding to the rest of the recipe x
 
I always part boil them and just do a thin layer x
