Ive just had a go at expressing I done 25 mins solid with the mini medela electric pump and i only have 1 1/4 oz!!

any info appreciated! xx

I was told not express for longer than 15 mins and always express after feeding as not to take any milk away. How old is your lo? I couldn't get much out until
Lo was maybe A month or more.

I usually do it for 15 minutes and get between 50-80ml, not sure what that is in oz, and my LO is 5 weeks x

Everyone will be different. Some women struggle with expressing. The best time to express is in the early hours. I used to get the most and the quickest around 4/5am. And very little if I tried expressing in the afternoon.

Mine is rubbish too... I do it every morning after first feed and get anywhere between 1-3 ounces over a half hour period. Mainly I get 1 ounce! I think some people just have more success with it than others. I'm pretty certain I have slow flow which I think adds to the reason I hardly get anything. If I'm trying to build up a certain amount for being away from baby, I do it again later in the day around an hour after a feed. It's a nightmare! Xxx

I expressed today for the first time using the tommee tippee electric one and only had it on for 10 mins and got 3oz then my boob seemed to be empty! I've heard loads of people saying it takes them days to get a good amount out (obviously as well as feeding too) so was pleased at how much I managed to get but I think I have a lot of milk - I'm constantly leaking xx

I also have the tommee tipee electirc pump, and i find it takes forever just to get about 4 ounces out. The most iv ever got out is 5ounces and that took about 40 minutes. I find it tiring and a waste of time tbh. Baby guzzles down whatever i express in about 5 minutes flat, then wants boob anyway. I honestly dont get this expressing thing. I just do it every now and then as i want her to be ok with the bottle, as eventually she will have to have the bottle when i go back to work. x

i know its such hard work, i struggle to find the time to express and my boob is really sore after!!

Hmm I never thought about expressing being hard...I too want to give it a try il let u know how I get on I'm pretty sure he emptys my boobs after a feed anyway so chances are I won't get much if anything then !

With my 1st I never bothered expressing, so i never realised how hard it was. Some people can get loads out, not me!

For me the best time to express is once we get up in the morning. He usually feeds about 7am and if I express after that I can get about 100ml from the other boob x

Also i worry that if i express from the boob that has the most milk (ie the one that i didnt feed her from), then in a way im getting rid of my milk for baby, as iv just put the milk in the bottle. Then when baby wants to feed i have to give her a half empty boob!

Ah... but that way you are stimulating your boobs to make more milk as you are telling them that there is not enough.

I would express from one boob whilst feeding from another. And I always did it on a morning. I think the key is not to get too much at once (unless you are expressing when you have replaced a feed) because your supply will adjust and you'll end up bottling it up for the neighbours.
