Hi, my sister is 37 weeks pregnant and due to be induced on thursday due to her diabetes, how long is the induction likely to take I know they vary greatly but an idea from people who were induced on how long they were in labour for would be very helpful!

I live 3 hours away from my sister and due to work can only go up to see her on the weekend, she should have had baby by saturday afternoon shouldnt she?

hi hun it can take days but it took about 6 hours for mine to work

I was induced at about 8am and Dan was born at 8.06pm but he had become distressed so it was by forceps..........would have been longer.

I was induced at 9.30am, was dilated enough to have waters broken by 3.30pm and had baby at 6.30pm, which was fairly quick.

hi mine was also quick, i was induced at 10am and she was born at 5.30pm. that was with the pessary. it depends if your body is ready etc, i was 9 days overdue and already dilating so could of helped. they wont edxamine you for 6 hours after first dose of pessary tho, to see if you need any more.

i hope it is quick and doesnt end up lasting for days as i know some people who have needed 3 or 4 doses of the pessary and it has taken a few days.

xxxxx

With DD I was induced on Wednesday 2.30pm, and again on Thursday morning, and again on Friday morning, and again on Saturday morning! She was born on Sunday 8.35am.

With DS I was induced on Monday around midday, and he was born on Tuesday 9.58pm (but I had ventouse and forceps to get him out fast as the cord was around his neck and he was distressed).

I was induced at 11am and fully dilated at 6pm.

3 days here.

1st postyn at 9am Wednesday, Stanley born 1.30pm Saturday

it did take 3 goes though, and there was a lot of faff getting the doctor's to 'sign off' a third.

I went in to be induced when I was 12 days overdue at 3.30pm and actually gave birth the day after when I was 13 days overdue at 8.52pm.

I was induced at 39 weeks was induced at 6.05, waters broke at 10 pm delivered at 12.21 so it can be very quick

May depend on type of induction too :)
I had the drip started at 3:15am, Isaac was born by forceps delivery at 1:41pm, but he was back to back and so they tend to be longer labours, but in our case roughly 10hrs.

Thanks everyone! My sister was induced thurs afternoon and had her little boy at 6.20am Friday morning going up to see them both this afternoon cant wait!! :cheer:
