How do you keep lettuce fresh?

i usually buy an iceberg lettuce, wash it all and put it in a salad drainer and keep it in the fridge,, but next day it's started going brown already..
what am i doing wrong? surely they don't just last one day?!

I only take off what I need for each meal and then it lasts 3/4days

Once its detached form the stalky bit it goes brown quite quickly, I just take off enough leaves for each meal

dont use a metal knife, you can buy plastic ones espcially for this purpose which stop it going brown

stainless steel knives should stop this too. but i just wash what i need and keep the rest wrapped and in the salad box in the fridge - it lasts for about 2 weeks

2 weeks? surely not... are you getting mixed up between the fridge and freezer hehe

Don't cut it with a knife, pull of the leaves you want and tear them up with your fingers.

Using a knife is why it goes brown.
