Oh bought stewing steak. What do i do with it.

Thinking i brown it and chuck it in the oven for ages.

But for how long and what with???

* Cut the meat into small chunks
* Roll them in flour (this will thicken your gravy)
* You dont have to brown them but you can if you prefer
* Slice an onion & add to pan with meat
* Add an oxo cube or any other type of stock along with some boiling water to make the gravy as the meat is cooking, also add a bay leaf and some seasoning
* Leave to simmer for a few hours
* Add any other veg you want to add, usually turnip, carrots, potato, parsnip, leeks
* Simmer for a further hour or until the veg is cooked
* About 20 minutes from the end of cooking time add your dumplings

Who's Stewart and what did he ever do to you?

Forgot to say I add a splash of Worcester sauce to mine when I add the dumplings, just gives it an interesting flavour

I generally just chuck it in a massive pot with carrots parsnips, onions, 4-5 oxos etc and cook it for at least 2-3 hours, then thicken the gravy with bisto.
I add pearl barley to mine too.

I do mine simallar to charlie and chuck loasds of root veg in and let simmer in the slowcooker and chuck in the dumplings in the end! I do mine in the morn though and let it cook all day and its lush!

i've got a stwe in the oven now :D
i chuck in a casserole dish :stewing steak raw.
1 onion
4/5 carrots
handful of frozen peas
1 pint gravy
1 can of chopped tomatoes
1 oxo cube sprinkled on the top
splash of worcester sauce
think thats all, i do it with mached potatoe.

my friend adds a can of baked beans right at the end, she sayd it makes it lovely & thick :D

Ill try a mix of all suggestions when i get home.

Let you know the result me and OH will eat anything.
If i can get the boys to eat it without moaning its been a success.

Stew went down a storm except for the peas. Not sure what happened to them but they were awful.
Pea free stew next time
