hi

i have some salmon fillets here from the butcher to cook for my OH dinner, do you grill or oven cook them and for how long?

i'm a terrible cook but i do try!! xxx

I like them grilled :D I've never done them in the oven, but I know you can do them in a frying pan too :D If you put a slice of lemon on top it makes them taste realllly nice :)

You can pan fry them in a little oil or you can lightly oil some foil and wrap them into loose parcels and put in the oven until they are cooked, when they have changed colour. I like mine the texture of chicken so I cook them a bit longer but it depends how you like it.

My mum adds butter but I just use olive oil and salt and pepper :)

oooo and I also sprinkle piri piri on too

I wrap them loosely in tin foil and bake in the oven for 15-20 mins. Yum!

i much prefer mine steamed, with steamed new potatoes an broccolli with any sauce you like, the only thing with frying them is they become quite greasy i dont grill it either as it drys them out.

I like to cook mine in a pan in some butter, then toward the end add a splash of creme fraiche and lemon juice and use it as a sauce.

Grilling also works :)

Just be careful not to overcook them as they get a bit tough if you do. If just cooked they will be moist and tender, not dry and slightly chewy.

They serve well with new boiled potatoes or rice and green beans :)

OMG I love salmon, just reading this my stomach is GROWLING for salmon!!

Its my fave thing ever yum yum

Oh and yeah I do it wrapped in foil too :)

wrapped in foil in the oven too with a bit of lemon.
Also I quite often put 2 on top of a tray of chopped veg (red onion, carrots, spinach, toms, aubergine, courgettes, mushrooms etc) cover with foil and bake. Your whole dinner, healthy and all cooked in one pot. Yummy!

Oooh that sounds lovely i'm going to try it tomorrow. :D

Mix a sauce (roux) and add lemon, make it really milky... sizzle it in the frying pan... Stick the salmon in the sauce, give it a minute, turn it over... give it another minute, serve, with the milk and lemon sauce :D

If you do fry it, don't leave it on for too long cos it cooks really quick, and it'll be all flaky. If you just do it quickly, it'll cook but still hold itself together when you take it out to serve :)

I like mine poached, like this.

Put them in a saucepan. Add half a chopped onion, and crumble half a chicken stock cube onto the fish. Then half-fill the pan with cold water (make sure the fish are thoroughly under water). Then stick a lid on and put the pan on to boil for a while until the fish is cooked (when it breaks apart easily if you stick a fork in it). Drain, and serve with mashed potatoes, peas, and carrots.
And top with one of these lovely schwartz fish sauces :
