I was just windering, pregnancy lastd for 9 months but you are pregnant for 40 weeks which to me is 10 months so how are the months broken up :?
Sorry if I am being really dumb but it confuses me??

It depends on your definition of "month" I think!

Pregnancy lasts AROUND 9 months (as in, calendar months averaging 30 days) from the date of your last period. However, the measurement in days is much more accurate. Of course, 40 weeks is 280 days (40 x 7) but you would only consider this 10 months if you think a month is 4 weeks (28 days) which it never is unless you're talking about February in a standard year.

I think 40 weeks works out more or less 9.5 months doesn't it? So in theory you are actually pregnant for 9 months as it's 38 weeks since the egg was fertilised (2 weeks after your period) xx

As debeccaaaa said.

The way I have done it is to go by weeks, so I'm 26 weeks now and will class as 6 months on the 10th March (as baby is due on 10th June)
Iykwim.

Yep, it is confusing if you are converting every 4 weeks into a month. Remember it doesn't work out that way. The best thing to do is go by the date you are due and on that day every month you are one month further along. i.e I'm due June the 5th and as it is March 5th today, I am exactly 6 months.

But remember 40 weeks = 9 and a half months so if you want to feel a bit further along you can say you're 6 and a half months today!
