Hi all together

Hope you're all fine. Yesterday I read in an article that it's bad for pregnant women to use scented sprays, like deos and such. I stopped using it now, even thou i did use it until a few days ago :?

And my future sister in law is using it all the time and a lot. And I see her every day and I get the full smell of it. Do you think it can do harm to our baby inside? Why is it so bad for us?

And I still have tummy and back pain as if I would go on period all the time. Every day. Its just uncomfortable, it comes and goes. Some women in here said it was / is the same with them. Oh, and I often have a kinda wet feeling down there. Sorry, tmi  Does anyone had the same? I'm always scared of going to toilet in case I find blood.

Oh, and one more thing. Does anyone of you uses Asthma-Spray cos I read that u shouldn't do it when your pregnant.

Have a great day

I had period type pains and cramps up until i was about 7 and a half weeks then they stopped for a bit but i have had them again this week.
I wont say stop worrying though cause i still do it and it is easier to say it than do.
Being a bit damp down below is pretty common to, as for the sprays, i cant stand them anyway and have made oh buy a roll on deoderant and i use mine rarely, i do have an air freshener in the hallway though that goes off every few mins, i dont think it will hurt you or bubba to much unless it is right under your nose all day everyday.

i got period type cramps from a week before i was due on till about 7/8 weeks , i never took a preg test till i was over a week late coz i was convinced i was going to come on.

As for looking for blood all the time i did that all through tri 1 .i still check but am not so worried in tri 2 .

i still use deodorant and perfume ,i don't know of any reason not to

as for asthma meds others on here have said they are fine but you can always call NHS direct and check..don't stop taking them without medical adivce that could be dangerous for you and the baby

I used perfume during my last pregnancy as I didn't know you weren't supposed to. but it came on the news about 2 weeks before she was due that using perfumes/scented sprays can be absorbed through your bloodstream into baby's bloodstream :(. No harm to Maddie thankfully.

This time I've switched to roll-on deodorants. I don't think it's a real problem if other people are using it and you get the odd whiff - it's more the contact and absorption through your skin I think.

I don't think you need to worry especially as you've stopped so early in your pregnancy.

i use ventolin my doctor said its fine to continue using but i still hold out for longer before resorting to it than i would have before.

Definitely ask the doctor or midwife about your asthma medicine before stopping it.

I should think that a lot of women use deodorant sprays. I don't think it is a problem, and yes period like pains are common in pregnancy. The uterus is contracting and we notice it.

Not sure about the smellies - anything scented turns my stomach at the moment, and only ever used roll-ons anyway.

Asthma inhalers are fine to use. This is my 4th pregnancy and have used ventolin and becotide nearly every day of each pregnancy. The midwives have always said that there is no problem using them.

I do find that my asthma actually gets better when I am pregnant - don't need to use the ventolin as much. Not sure why this is though?

thanks for posting the thread. some great info here :)

oh no *panic* i didnt know you wasnt supposed to use spray deodrant and perfume???

I wouldn't panic Emma, if it was that bad then surely our midwives would have mentioned it. Mine has said nothing so I'll continue to use it.

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT CHARM, AND ALSO HAVENT READ IT IN ANY OF MY PG BOOKS.....

If you have asthma, it's a really good idea to keep it under control during pregnancy as it means that your blood has enough oxygen in it to nourish your baby. Also, I think that as the effects of the spray's are so localised that it is not absorbed into your blood and it does not get passed onto your baby. I use seretide daily and have checked it with my dr who says it is fine. Sometimes asthma can improve during pregnancy as the body produces more natural steroids to lower it's immune system so that it doesn't reject the baby. Sometimes asthma can get worse due to the effects of the increased hormones - it depends which you are more likely to react to, so is very individual.

Hey lovely ladies

Thank you for all your replies. It helped me a lot.

I didn't want to scare anyone with this thread :? I'm really sorry.

But I'm glad that some of you might think it's a helpful thread, too.

Have a great day

I would think that its the solvents that propel the aerosols that are the cause for concern.

Therefore its unlikely to be a problem unless you use tonnes of the stuff! I would think most perfumes are OK too.

My perfume is in an old fashion bottle with an air pump, so I should be fine! :D

HIya

I am 6 weeks and have also had cramps. When I spoke to nurse about this she said to me not to worry (thats the worst you can do) and sometimes the cramp you feel can be a result of the constipation and things moving down there. Its just uncomfortable I have to keep shifting in my seat and I have a slightly expanded waist - although I am convinced that is due to my tummy and not the baby!!

I also know that the wetness is totally normal, so really don't worry. Not sure about the deodrant and perfume thing never heard of that one before!

Hope everyone is good today!
