Sorry to have a bit of a whinge, but I'm getting really pee'd off at the lack of parking at the hospital, as I've been on shared care I've spent quite a bit of time there.

Where the maternity block is there is a small staff car park and a larger (50 cars ish) public car park, but every time I try to get in the public one it has always been full, but on Monday I was there just before 9 and got in one of the last 3 spaces, but when I looked at all the other cars it seemed that about 70% of the cars were staff permit ones. There is also a really large staff car park round the other side of the hospital but takes about 10 mins to walk round.

Is it me or should the public car parks be for the patients??? :x It's a bit daft that alot of the patients will be struggling walking/waddling and they are forced out for the staff.

Rant over!! :D

I flaming hate hospital parking! We have 3 car parks for one huge hospital, the only hospital in our city. It takes ages to get a space and you can never get one near maternity! We usually drive around about 4 times before we can find one and then we have to pay £3 just to park!

Parking at our hospital is ridiculous during the day. They are building a new hospital which is ONLY accessible by road to take over from that one so parking better be well provided for!

This is one of my main worries with when I go into labour as there is nowhere to park and could be a 1/2 mile walk from furthest part of the car park to delivery bit  . We will probably get someone to take us to save the hassle of parking if it's a busy time of day.

At our hospital, there is hardly any parking but apparently when you arrive whilst in labour you park out the front (where the ambulances stop) and the midwives will give you a 'labour permit' so that your partner doesn't have to spend hours driving around finding a space if things are at a crucial pace! They then go and move the car when things are less hectic!

Might be worth asking if there is the same sort of thing at your hospital :D

One guy from my hozzie did that but he's not allowed, he popped a note in the window to say his wife is giving birth and he came back to a ticket...

My gripe is what if someone is very very critical, drives down because ambulance might take too lng and then has to leave the person in the hospital to go up on their tod to find a parking space.

I think its disgusting i mean i know we get free health care but come on...

I think they should make labouring and critical spaces, also whaat about a storey carpark??

good post!
Nothing like a rant when your pregnant lol! :rotfl:
x

Mildly, what a fab idea!

Our hospital have always been fine for us, but at a class the other day everyone was moaning about it saying how they'd hate to walk from the main car park in to the the maternity unit when in labour. It hadn't even occurred to me!

parking at my hospital used to be fine but they're building some new blocks and guess where they're being built...  .....on the old car parks!!!

The muppets haven't put any temporary parking parking in place so there's about 50 public spaces for a massive big hospital and there's another 30 or so but they are about half a mile away from the maternity unit! They do have a drop off point outside the maternity block for people in labour but you can only stay there for a maximum of 20 minutes so if I go into labour at a busy time DH will have to leave me to go and find a space which I really don't want.

I just hope I go into labour in the night so there's spaces and even I feel it coming I might just go to the hospital and sit in the car to make sure I've got a space :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

In our local paper a few months ago it told us about this woman who's mum had been rushed in in an ambulance and she followed in the car. When she got to the hospital the queue was out on the road (which is normal) and by the time she got parked and in the hospital her mum had died.

Crikey, at least others are in the same boat as me, we also wondered whether you can park anywhere if you are rushing in, but it looks like we're in for an induction on Friday so hopefully the car park might not be too bad and I will be able to walk, well as much as I can at the moment!

There seems to be so many staff at hospitals not doing alot, I do wonder how much common sense the hospital management have, maybe they should have us patients organising things for them!!!

I'm not having a go at the NHS as I've always been treated really well, but some things just do my head in!! :wall: :wall:

Im at the same hospital its soooooo sooooo soooooo busy! and the carpark its not as if you can drive round and then go round again you drive round once then theres arrows and you have to drive to another bit then another part then you drive near the "busy bees" bit and end up getting completely stuck because people follow you and you cant get turned or reverse because they are on your arse. I was in tears when I went for my scan last time because I was driving around for so long and had completely missed my scan time I thought they would of turned me away but when I went to the antenatal bit there was LOADS of people all pregnant and all really grumpy who had had the same problem. And the price of parking is just ridiculous!!!!

They usually understand/don't mind if you are dropped off outside the maternity unit and check yourself in while OH goes off to park elsewhere. My hospital said lots of people did this and so long as the car didn't stop parked for longer than a couple of minutes to drop off person and bags it was fine.

and here's where i p**s everyone off.

the hospital i'm at now is great.
there's lots of little carparks but all at different rates. we've been to the hospital twice now and parked in the same place. it means having to walk for 5 mins or so once your parked but i'm not gonna complain when there's always spaces there and it costs £1 for 24 hours.

i'm not joking either.
the car park outside main entrance costs £1 for 20 mins and you're not allowed to stay there for over 4 hours.

try not to get too angry with me. OH has already told me i'll have to walk when i get there cos the parking is too much of a great deal, that i have no choice on the matter!!! - surely walking would help with the labour too......

LOL not gonna get angry with you its nice to see that not every where is as ridiculous as here :D I would walk 15 min if I knew I would get parked at a decent price for a good amount of time.
