It's just awful. It started to appear yesterday and got worse today to the point that she's been bare arsed most of today. She has had a few spots a couple of times in her life but NOTHING like this. I haven't even been using wipes but she cries even when I clean her gently with warm water and cotton wool :(

The only thing Becky has had different is bread (well, toast), everything else she has had before albeit in pureed form. Would it be worthwhile not giving her any more to see if it helps? She is also on less Gaviscon now which means her poo (TMI, sorry), is back to being a bit less solid. She is also teething - gnawing, drooling (if she drools much more I'll need an ark) and grumping.

I hope she's not getting sick :(

I've tried Sudocrem, Bepanthen and Metanium over the last couple of days. Any suggestions?

Ive just finished with Metanium this week cause Maia had a bit of a sore bum that sudocream just didnt seem to do anything. The only other thing I can think of that might be worth a go is Lansinoh, if you have any, I know a few Mums on here have used it for all sorts and its seemed to work.

Hey dsl,

I know people on here have used raw egg white or cornflour to treat bad nappy rash (seperately, not together!).

I hope Becky's bum is better soon, poor thing. I'd be inclined to just stick to fruit and veg (BLW style if you like) at the moment, while it clears up and try again with bread or anything else containing gluten at a later date.

Oh poor Becky!!!!

Sounds to me exactly like Mhairi when she started a full on teething period. Metanium is good, as is Morhulin (ask me to check the spelling on that one in the morning when I can get into madam's room without all the birthday presents lighting up and singing songs! ).

Just try and catch any poo as soon as it hits the nappy as I've found with Mhairi that it's not urine that causes a sore bum, just poo!

Have you tried the Ashton & Parsons powders for the teething? They calm the tummy and bowel movements too, and that leads to a massive improvement in the rash.

Also, when Mhairi first had it my midwife told me to use "a tiny smear of sudocream". Two weeks later I got fed up with my poor baby not getting better and PLASTERED the stuff on THICK THICK THICK and guess wot?!?!?! Gone in a day!!!!!

Cornflour works a treat. Harry got it real bad when he cut his first two teeth

Give her plenty of nappy off time too xx

Just I'd add, in the AK book it says allergies can present themselves by nappy rash as well. Just something to bear in mind in case it happens again?

Arianna gets it bad with certain food... when she was little it was if she had too much potatoes.

Hope Becky gets better...

does food alergies cause nappy rash???? I never knew that! Kayleigh has a really really bad case of it at the min and I have been giving her some different jars - she has the hipp organic jars and this week she has had the pasta one - do you think there is a link?
She is teething too so could be a mixture maybe?
She has what looks like a little blister appearing too, is that nappy rash? xx

It might be worth taking her to the gp in case it is thrush.

Timodine is apparently great for nappy rash, id let her skin breathe as much as possible too and have lots of nappy-free time. Also, id steer clear of wet wipes so they're not stinging the sore area for now. Apart from that just keep it clean and dry like your allready doing and nip her to the doctors just to be sure  x

..also, some babies get nappy rash when they're teething x

Poor Becky! James had awful nappy rash and we ended up getting referred to the docs as the health visitor wasn't happy with it. he had a course of antibiotics and canesten (don't think they were sure if it was bacterial or fungal!) which didn't make an awful lot of difference. We had to stop using real nappies cos every time we tried them again it completely flared up. Currently using metanium and not going near him with wipes....
Hope it gets better soon.

Thanks very much all. We've been slathering on Bepanthen (seems to work the best so far) and it currently looks like her bum is on the mend. It's now back to being just spots rather than one huge dreadful patch of red. She's also only been having pretty ordinary fruit and veg to eat so we'll bring back bread slowly once it's completely clear.

Going to HV on Thursday to get her weighed so if it's not completely cleared up by then hopefully she'll be of some help.

Thank you again
