So we are flying to lanzarote on Boxing Day, booked it before I got pregnant.

I wondered if anyone had any advice for dos and donts when on holiday pregnant. I’ve got my flight socks, higher spf than necessary as skin will be a bit extra sensitive but that’s about the only things I’ve done to prepare (other than buy bigger bikinis for my big melon boobs lol).

I’m also a bit anxious about travelling when pregnant, I’m sure it will all be fine but I’m worried nonetheless.

I flew to Turkey when I was 12 weeks. I had to take fragmin injections on day of flights cos it was over 4 HR flight. I just made sure I stayed out of sun in peak times, kept hydrated etc. I was told to take my hand held notes with me. I got the worst cold virus in the plane and was ill the whole time I was away! Blocked sinus etc... Hope you have better luck!

thanks hun, my flight is only 4 hrs so flight docks should be sufficient. I almost always get sunstroke on holiday so I’m going to be extra cautious!

my whole office was ill yesterday at work and I’ve not caught that so fingers crossed the plane doesn’t give me something but at this time of year I won’t hold my breath!

I went abroad twice when I was pregnant. No issues at all but I was well throughout anyway. Definitely pack your notes with you just in case.

Would also check with your travel insurance that they don't need to know beforehand. Most don't but definitely worth checking just in case. Also how far along are you? I can't remember how far along it is before you need a fit to fly letter as I flew early enough both times.

Enjoy yourself! Much deserved couples time!

thanks hun, I’m only 21 weeks so we’ll below the cut off. I don’t have handheld notes they are all on line, I have a paper growth chart but as I’ve not yet started being measured seems a waste of time to take that.

I flew to New York at 10 weeks, the Philippines at 21 weeks and Thailand at 28 weeks with my first pregnancy, never had any issues. The only thing I did different compared to normal travel is buy lots of water before boarding and wear compression stockings. I did get a medical check up and paper from my doctor for the last long flight as some airlines ask for a medical certificate before you travel.
I would also ask for an aisle seat so you can get up from time to time, and not too far from the lavatory.
Bring some paracetamol in your hand luggage but travel light. I never took more than my handbag! If you can't lift it to put it in the overhead bin, then have it checked in. I'm a flight attendant and have seen pregnant women struggling to get through the airport to get to their planes, better to spare your hips and back!

Avoid the sun if possible, and always use a 50 spf sunblock when out. I avoid the sun everyday and still got this lovely pregnancy mask going on. You really don't want to get one, my OH thinks it makes me look like I got punched in the face because I have 2 crescent moon-like dark spots under my eyes. Hate it!

Stay hydrated like the ladies said. Foodwise, it's still Spain so I would not be too worried about ice cubes, but be cautious with outdoor buffets. Oh and get and anti mosquito spray for babies or kids, I would avoid the DEET ones but am not sure if you can still get them in the UK.

Have a lovely baby moon!!:cheer:

thank you so much hun, that’s really helpful. Glad to see so many ladies travelling when pregnant. X

I’m currently 30 weeks flew out to punta Cana from Toronto Ontario on the 22nd I wore compression socks on the flight which made me feel just horrible my legs swelled up huge I had to take them off mid flight!! Felt much better with them off. I’d suggest just to be well hydrated and walk atleast twice on the plane and take normal bathroom trips

If you put them on incorrectly, they will be ineffective. I use compression stockings of at least 140den daily for my flights and have never had any problems. I have some duties well over 14 hours and you do swell up a bit but not as much if you were to use none. I strongly recommend to use them during pregnancy when flying, even if they are just knee lenght! Your blood starts to pool in your feet and lower legs increasing the risk of getting clots. Some women have to inject themselves with bloodthinners just to travel.
Maybe you could ask a GP what he thinks is best, but as I have been flying for over 13 years, I would never fly without them.x

Weren't there instructions with the pair you bought? They are so difficult to put on. Some brands claim 70den are already compression stockings but they don't offer as much as 140den ones. And some brands crush your toes, so check if the toe area is a different pattern than the rest of the stockings. If you try to pull them on, without doing it cm by cm, they will form indents in the skin and make you very uncomfortable. If I don't put them on slowly, then they don't even reach my crotch lol x
