Hi

Just wanted some info or hear peoples views.

I am ment to be going on holiday 16th june for 2 weeks to Dominican but went to the doctors yesterday and was advised because I cant take the malaria tablets that he would advise me not to go, I know there is a risk but I have been before to dominican (not preggers) and was fine.

Is anyone travelling in there pregnancy if so where & what would you do?

Thanks x x

If you're only visiting the tourist areas it's extremely low risk anyway. Your doctor has to advise you not to go - he wouldn't want to be blamed if he said it was ok to go without them and you did end up getting it. Personally I would go, unless you're trekking through areas where the risk is greater (which I doubt at 6 months pregnant). Swamp yourself in insect repellant! x

Hi there

I went to the Dominican in January when I was 26 weeks pregnant. I was prescribed malaria tablets, which have been approved for use in pregnancy which I needed to take once per week and if my memory serves me correctly I had to continue the tablets for 4 weeks upon my return. In saying that I still put plenty of repellant on and never got bitten at all but there were a lot of people in the resort who did get bitten so there were mozzies about. Why are you not allowed to take malaria tablets? My gp had more of a problem with my flying long haul at that stage of my pregnancy and advised me to take half an asprin before the flight, wear flight socks and walk around every hour to prevent DVT. He nearly put me off going but I went anyway, with my 22 month old on my knee and all was well. We had a fab time x
