Long story short.

Have my pre op on Oct 6. Consult with gynacologist on Oct 10. Then my op at the end of November.

Consult will mean possible treatment (what exactly I have no clue). Not related to the November op.

Galen will be 6 months old by the time this op comes round. All being well he'll have started weaning a week or two before. I do worry though about being able to express enough or to try to use formula then. I am loathed to go near formula having done so well so far. But he needs to be able to take a bottle for the day at least. And so has to start having the odd bottle feed in the run up to it so I know if he'll take it or not.

I hadn't wanted to use bottles for milk at that age but to keep going with the boob. But I guess circumstances mean I have to resort to the bottle for the 24 hours. I'll start expressing a month before and freezing it all. Hopefully will have enough for feeds and weaning. Thankfully my mother is coming to stay for a few days and will be helping.

I'm kind of dreading the op. Mainly as its possible the recovery time could be up to 3 months if they decide to leave it open to heal. I won't know till it happens afaik. Hopefully it'll be stiched, but apaprently not all Docs stitch :wall: My Registrar said to ask for it to be stiched but to be prepared for it to not take and for the would to have to be reopend to heal. Hence the long healing process. Not looking forward to BF'ing after the op but won't know until its done how things will be :wall:

And the Gyne consult? This is for bladder woes and investigation and also to discuss options with regard to TTC a second time and give birth naturally etc. Or if trying for a second is going to cause me such problems I'd be better not. If I need an op it might be better to wait till we have a second baby and then repair any damage. But then if this problem occurs again I'd at least be prepared for it and will be better able to deal with it. So many questions, so few answers. It sucks you have to wait 6 months for bladder problems after giving birth to be addressed. OK, I waited 5 but thats because I'm so fed up living like this my GP pushed for it.

And yeah, my bladder problem made BF'ing a living hell for the first 6 weeks. So really really worried about a second baby with regards to the same problem or worse.

Plus next time round I won't have the other problem as the op would have sorted that. I hope.

Gah :?

Sorry if its all a bit random. Those who have followed the story elsewhere will hopefully have some clue what I am on about.

*edited to add* Uhh realise this is in Feeding. Not Health. But then its to do with feeding and health. So posted it here. I'm more concerned with Galen taking a bottle than I am about most of the rest atm. We tried him with one the other day and he flat refused to take EBM from it. Need to keep trying in the run up to the op.

If it's only going to be for 24 hours or so have you thought about trying to get him to take EBM froma cup instead?

I have no experience of this, but I agree with this. Ella has been drinking water from a cup for a couple of months now and is quite good at it! (but she is bottle fed, dunno if that makes a difference?)

Yeah as the other girls have said try a sippy cup :)

Calleigh wont go near a bottle and to be honest i am not trying anymore i think going straight to a cup now is a better option.
I have bought a tommee tippee sippy cup (no valve) and have been occasionally giving it to her with a little bit of water in to see if she will take it. I pretend to take a sip and she watches then i place in her hands (i help a little to hold it) and she pops it in her mouth. I help tip it up and she gets the water out. Still early days tho so she is still learning :)

I'm not sure he'll be able to take all his feeds for 24 hours that way though is the thing. It depends how well he is doing and if he is able to be totally awake for all of them. Atm he often starts awake and then drifts off and finishes dreamfeeding. He'll only be 6 months old when it happens and as I would have only started weaning a week or two before hand I am not sure how well things will be going.

I am not sure how soon he could try with a cup. Also I had planned to only use one for water. He'd have to be taking some EBM in it beforehand so I'd have to introduce it sooner to be sure it would work. I'm not sure how I feel about giving him too many feeds from a cup

I see.
Hmmm maybe just try and get him back on the bottle and once you have had your op you can ditch it straight away. He may take the bottle after a few goes as he has previously used one.
It is a tricky one as you want to introduce a cup for water and i am unsure as to how he would react to it if still having a bottle.

I think I'm inclined to go with trying to get him to have EBM from a bottle for the 24 hours. He's had EBM in the early weeks a fair few times but not for ages now. Guess he has no memory of having had feeds from bottles so doesn't like them now.

We'll keep trying on and off with a bottle and see how it goes. And feeder cup for water once we start weaning.

When I had an op a few weeks back Ellie & hubby were admitted with me to hospital so that I could feed her as she wouldnt take a bottle well at that time, i'm not sure if thats something thats an option for you? I know only certain hospitals/wards will do this as I was lucky that there was a side room availible for us.

I fed her before I went to theatre then expressed afterwards and threw the milk away. Hubby gave her a bottle while I was in theatre and until I was ready to feed her from the breast again. It worked well for us, it wasnt the most ideal situation but it ment that Ellie didnt get too upset with not having breast and I was happier knowing that she was ok and fed :)
