Aria was checked over by the baby doctor in hospital the day after she was born and she mentioned that she would need a hip x-Ray due to her coming out breech. I did point out that she only came out breech because the surgeon turned her that way before delivering her (via csection) but it was agreed that because she had been transverse for a good proportion of the last few weeks it would still be necessary to check her over. The doctor said it would be when she's about six weeks old, but the letter has come through and its on Tuesday

Has anyone else's little one had this x-Ray? I'm just wondering what to expect. How will they hold her still? Will I be nearby?

We have to have the same scan for the same reason Durham. Havnt had the appointment trough yet but jut wanted to reassure that you're not the only one and it does seem to be standard protocol. Take comfort from the fact that my wlsest son was also transverse all the way through pregnancy and hips we're absolutely fine though his dad took him in to scan so I don't know what actually happened as I wasn't very well.

I've asked my MW about it this afternoon, apparently it's actually an ultrasound rather than an X-ray. She thought it was strange that the appointment is so soon as they usually only rush them if there is family history of hip problems or if she'd had a clicky hip during her check.

lily has to have one of these due to being a twin, the gp did a hip check at her 6 week check friday and said they seem normal. i think it pretty much is protocol for babies that like aria have been transverse or a multiple pregnancy etc. Lilys is a week on tuesday. xxx

Hi- my son was found to have clicky hips at birth and we had an ultrasound. You will be right by her side and they just take the nappy off and hold the leg in position to take the x Ray. My son did go on to have treatment for a shallow clicky hip for around 12wks and now all is well. If you need any further info just ask. It's best they check this early rather than miss anything. Xx

My LO had this scan at 6 weeks. I won't lie, she didn't like it but then she was a very screamy baby anyway. However, it didn't last very long at all, it just wasn't that nice trying to hold her still while she cried. She soon forgot about it though!

She was found to have hip dysplasia and fitted with a harness but fingers crossed your LO will be just fine!

Sprout, same as my little boy. He had the pavlik harness. E still have annual check ups now though x

If you are having it done at Grantham, the lady who does the scan is lovely and just goes with the baby. Jacob had one done about 8 weeks old due to uneven leg creases and Dr wasn't sure hips were ok at 6 week check. Hope it goes ok xx

Thank you for your experiences, that's much more reassuring :) it's being done at the QMC steffy, I was never given Grantham as an option, maybe because she was born in Nottingham. I'll update after tomorrow's appointment x

Our son had a hip ultrasound at around 6 weeks as he was an unstable lie and spent a great deal of time transverse. You take them into the darkened room and their bottom half is stripped before being placed in a sort of cradle which holds them in position on their side. Then gel is applied and they do the ultrasound. My son was v wiggly and didn't enjoy the experience, but it was over quickly. We had the results that day and a doctor talked us through them. His hips were fine fortunately. Hope your appointment goes well. Xxx

I've done another thread, they diagnosed hip dysplasia today, she's in a Pavlik harness. I'm struggling to deal with it.
