My lb is 2 weeks old tomorrow and breastfed. After the majority of his feeds he gets the hiccups. Really big, loud, full body moving hiccups. Does anyone else's lo's suffer from them or what am I doing wrong?
Many thanks x
Hi, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. My LO gets hiccups quite a lot too though he doesn't seem bothered by them. I breastfeed to and first noticed the hiccups on day 2when we were in hospital and I was told not to worry and could feed through them. He tends to get them after feeding though so not very helpful. If they're not bothering LO I wouldn't worry. Think I read on here in the past that theyre noting to worry about unless theyre over a long period of time but cant remember what was considered long or what it would signal-sorry. Maybe worth searching for past posts though?
Had the health visitor out this afternoon she said it could be a sign of reflux if he wouldn't settle while lying down but he's great so she said it's just 1 of those things lol xx
Funny my LO has reflux but never thought of them being related. We only realised it was reflux at about 6weeks I think when what I thought was wind seemed to get worse and he was in pain with crying and even screaming after a feed. Keep an eye on it sure and if necessary give doctor a shout as we had to get medication (2wks might be a bit early to show itself). Since you're breastfeeding you won't have to thicken the milk or anything-just a tiny amount into baby's mouth and it should settle but like you say could just be one of those things.
It sounds like it could be reflux my LO was the same and quickly got to where it was obvious he was in pain after feeding. Keep an eye on it and if necessary phone doctors-they prescribed me something over phone&it was such a relief to know LO wasn't suffering.
They say to raise head of cot/Moses basket though not sure it helped. My sister swore by lying baby on their stomach though her kids then slept on belly to help it long term which I didn't want to do. In short term I found leaning him over my shoulder (high up with arms over my shoulder too) and walking around helped.
