My lo is 17 days old and I have been ebf but my poor little girl has got thrush so of course I have it to :( dr has told me to express a couple of times a day to give my nips a rest but I don't know what more stressful.

Having a real struggle with getting out of the house also as I don't feel comfortable bf in public, silly I know but that's just how I feel, so I feel as though I daren't go to far for the fear she will need feeding.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) xx

Sorry Hun I don't have any useful advice but bumping this so hopefully someone will see it who has knowledge x

Have you got thrush? In your nipples? Or just your daughter in her mouth?

Regarding breastfeeding in public...17 days is still very very early days. It took me a while to be a "pro" and breastfeeding out scared the hell out of me. But I did do it eventually and got to a stage where I could feed anywhere.

These days though there are lots of places to feed in shopping centers and shops. Mothercare, boots, debenhams, john lewis, m&s usually have rooms to feed in. Some more private/better than others.

When I went any where the first thing I would do is scout out somewhere to feed. A quiet bench in a park, a proper breastfeeding room, and if in doubt, ask. I was at the o2 once...complete nightmare. One disabled loo doubled up as the changing room, really really busy, no benches to sit on. My hubby asked a member of staff and they found me a quiet corner and chair in the VIP area to feed! Can't tell you how grateful I was.

Thanks ladies my daughter has it in her mouth and I have now got it in my nipples!! Dr has given lo drops for her mouth n cream for me. I simply cannot get the hang of expressing n the more stressed out I get with it the worse it becomes but feeding her off of my poorly nipples is making the whole bf situation 10 times worse. I've given her 4oz of formula tonight just to try and get a bottle expressed in front of what she needs. I am so do close to just formula feeding but the results of bf speak for themselves as my lo is so content normally until her poorly mouth.

I'm on my phone so can't link. If you go to the breastfeeding website, they have PDF leaflets. There's one on thrush. It has a bit for doctors about what to prescribe. I'm pretty sure when I had thrush in the nipples I was given an oral antibiotic. So check that out as a starting point.

Get some probiotic drinks to help replenish the good bacteria.

As I said I had thrush in the nipples and it is extremely painful. It was definitely one of the many times I nearly gave up on breastfeeding. Try and hang on in there as when the breastfeeding becomes easy (and it will) you will be glad you did.

Also it's early days for expressing too, so don't panic if you're not getting much. If expressing is jess painful, what I would do is have skin to skin with your daughter while expressing. That would hopefully help your supply and help with the let down.

Also the best time to express is usually in the early hours. I would get a whole bottle very quickly at 4am, but almost nothing at 4pm. if you find the breastfeeding site, there's lots of useful info on there about expressing too.
