Okay so for the past couple of days Jacob hasn't seemed happy feeding on the left side. He would for a little while then stop and start and stop every few seconds and look at me and scream. He sounded panicked but I figured maybe he was annoyed because he wasn't getting as much from that side (although I feel like there is a lot there but that is all I could think of). Well, this has started to happen on the right side, too! It has happened a few times, but just now I was feeding him and everything seemed fine and he suddenly stopped and screamed and went into hysterics. Shaun took him and calmed him down then gave him back to me. I put him in position and he started screaming again. This happened a couple of times and now Shaun has him with a dummy and he seems happy. I am sure he is still hungry though because the last two or three feeds have been cut short because of this. I'm scared I am hurting him somehow but I don't think I am doing anything differently and he doesn't have thrush so I don't know what to do!

When your OH took him away did he put him in the cradle postion or up on his shoulder... because if it was up on his shoulder, its probably colic which seems really common at this stage. Does it also happen to be worse at certain times of the day?

Have tried something like gripewater, infacol, fennel/Camomile tea... ?

Saying that I tried that and it didn't really work :rotfl: They do grow out of it though and its just a matter of making sure they are well winded or feed for 5 mins then wind then feed for another 5 and wind.

He was cradling him and bouncing him on my pilates ball- something that always relaxes him. I'm so scared I am hurting his back or something. Shaun has to go so he's sleeping on me now. The other reason I think he's still hungry is that when he wakes up he pushes himself into feeding position but when I then go to help he screams again. I don't think it's my fast letdown because he's used to that and when he's stopping I'm not spraying so it seems to be okay right now.

Bet its colic then if he was bouncing him... We used to "shoogy" lil miss sorta gently and softly shake/bounce her and that would always soothe her when she had colicky episodes... You won't be hurting him, babies bounce  ...but the colic is quite painful which is why he's crying in pain... what you need to congratulate yourself on is that you are so in tune with your LO now, that you know what his pain cry is like

Try some of the colic remedies... it may be reflux too... is he arching his back at all... reflux doesn't necessarily have to have sickness too...mention it to you mw/hv/gp... :)

I'm managing to feed him finally. I hope this lasts! I was scared I was hurting him while holding him to feed him. When he was cying I kept feeling his shoulder crack. He kicks his legs out straight when he's doing this, but then, he also does when he's happily feeding. We call it his rocket position.

Hi Moss, Lottie started to do something simular at around 7 weeks. She would be feeding and suddenly pull off and scream as if she was in pain. I posted a question about it on here viewtopic.php?f=55&t=92003 People said this may just be a fussy phase. It seems as though they were right. For about a week it was happening at every feed, it was really upsetting. However it then was just at evening feeds and after about 2-3 weeks she settled back down and is now feeding well again. Hope this helps.

Yep. I posted a similar thing also at 7 weeks. It should pass, even if it is colic.

Maia went through this as well but it was just a bit of trapped wind with her rather than colic, I used infacol and it seemed to help a lot after a few days or so.

Thanks everyone! He seems to have calmed down for most feeds, but still does it sometimes. I have noticed over the past couple of days, though, that he seems to be showing some teething signs. He's kind of blowing bubbles, chewing on anything his mouth gets near, etc. Maybe this is the cause of the feeding problem, as well. I really hope he doesn't get his first tooth for a long time, though! D:

Forgot to say that I used to wind Maia in the middle of feeds when she started screaming, which used to help a great deal.

My Lo used to do a similar thing and it was obviously a pain cry so I gave her Infacol and tried to wind her although often she struggled to get the wind up. It settles down though

Something else for you to (possibly) look forward to-I also found that after 12 weeks Kathryn stopped feeding for extended periods of time and was quite happy feeding for a maximum of 10 mins. If I tried to keep her on longer she would scream! I think they just become much more efficient.

I learnt all I have needed to know about breast feeding from this forum (thanks to Squiglet and Midna in the main) so any queries you have there will be someone out there with an answer and support for you
