OH is going away in may for 5 days and instead of sitting at home ive decided to go away for a couple of nights with nathan. i would love to go to scotland(as i used to live there and i love it) but feel it would be a nightmare trying to get there. i was thinking about wales or cornwall cos i havent really been there. basically where do i go? i want to do some exploring i quite like the look of portmeirion has anyone been there?
i live near gloucester and am willing to drive for a max of 4 hours. awww i dont know i could just fly to scotland?!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :wall:

help help help any suggestions welcome thanks in advance.

I live in wales but havnt done for very long so dont know many places, however I am hopelessly in love with the brecon beacons - just do a google and you'll see what I mean!

hmmmm you'd get to edinburgh in about 6 hours! (my mum lives in watchet near taunton and i can get down there in 7.5 hours!)

i really wanna go to edinburgh have vague memories of it when i was a kid. i think i would need to fly as 6-7 hours in a car with nathan might be pushing it

ooo the lake district might be worth thinking about, its really beautiful there too! not quite as far in the car with the wee man!

Lake District and Cumbria area is lovely. I always stay in a place called Tirral near to Penrith, as there are some lovely budget farm cottages run by a couple there, and it's a good distance from town if you need things and good distance from sights - lakes and waterfalls etc :)

I went to Portmeirion and surrounding area when I was younger. It's got a lot of pottery and things there and is generally a nice quiet place to go.

Also been to the far south-west of Wales, right in the furthest corner, and as nice as it is, around this time of year it is very very quiet and cold and you would struggle with things to do.

I have a book of stone circles/ruins that my mom bought me, and seeing where they are on a map gives a good idea of places with interesting features and places to walk.
