Hey all,

I wonder if I could get your advice and experiences.

I'm 19 weeks now but I still have aches and pains in my abdomen every day and I don't know what's normal and what's not.

Sometimes they are like sharp, stabby pains that last a second or two - just below my belly button. I seem to get lots of them in a row.

Other times they are more like a dull ache lower down and sometimes its like a stitch or a throb on the right or left side.

I know I sound like a complete hypochondriac but I keep worrying that they are a bad sign as no-one else I know who is pregnant has had anything similar. I haven't felt the baby move yet so I don't know if its ok in there....

Today I did some exercise that involved lots of stretching forward, back and to the sides. I didn't really join in but I did a bit if you know what I mean and now I'm worried I might have done some damage such as damaged the placenta or something. Should I get it checked out or would I know if something was wrong?

Please help! :?

xx

I've got pains like that too...but I've also got bleeding as well...I've had them since 7weeks. But baby was fine and healthy yesterday,

I think you should go and see you MW mainly because you haven't felt the little one move, she should be able to listen for the HB and put your mind at rest, but I think that there are many women who have similar pains as you.

Chin up hun...take it easy too.. you might be doing to much and its your bodys way of telling you to slow down.   Its unlikely that you did any damage exercising gentley unless you have a low placenta...but that will show up on your scan at 12 weeks like mine did.

I have been having pains on and off all the way through my pregnancy so far. They seem to be either dull lower back ache which goes after a couple of mins, or quick stabbing pain in my side / front. None of the pains past more than a couple of mins, so our consultant has told me not to worry about them - only if they don't go away.

I guess everyone is different, and the best thing to do is speak to your midwife about the pains you are having, and also mention you have not felt any movements yet. One of my friends was 19 weeks yesterdy and has only felt movements over the past week or so, whereas mine started about 16 weeks - so again, everyone is different :D

Everyone is different. My friend didn't feel anything until after her 21 week scan. I get a bit of pain when in my sides when I'm tossing and turning at night but nothing in the day...well not for ages. But I'm sure yours is okay. I knew of someone who had stabbing pain throughout her pregnancy.
If there was a problem with the baby I suspect that you would have bleeding first. I bet it's just stretching/growing pains.

I still get pains like this every few days. It is quite normal as everything is moving to make room for baby. As long as you are not doubled over then you will be fine. If indoubt get it checked out. xxx

I get pains every so often, midwife said it was stretching pains, and sign of a healthy pregnancy. However, if you are that worried I would go and see a midwife. Hope you start to feel better soon

I often got pains like this, sometimes it was so bad I couldn't even walk! My midwife said it was ligaments stretching too. I hope you feel better soon

Hi

Thanks for all your kind replies.

I went to see my midwife this afternoon and was pleased to see I had normal BP and urine and she listened to the baby's heart beat  which was strong. She said the little pops I can occasionally feel are likely to be movements but also said she thought I had an anterior placenta (?) which might be why I can't feel much.

She couldn't really say what the pains were but the side pains were likely to be ligament pain. Although I don't have an infection she thinks the low aching might mean my bladder/uretha is inflammed - which is why I am a bit achey when I go to the loo and always feel like I need the loo.

anyone come across this before or know any way I can get rid of it?

thanks again!

xx
