Hello all, the last few days I have been very breathless and my heart seems to be racing. I have been lying on the sofa when this happens. Do it's not as if I have been doing to much. It's horrible, feel like I am going to pass out :(

Is this normal? Xx

I can't see how far you are. You will probably get a lot of replys and they will all say yeah its normal. I don't wanna worry you but in on opinion feeling breathless when sat still doing nothing isn't normal. I know this because I had this in my last pregnancy and ignored it as I assumed it was normal. Then I collapsed and they scanned me I had 3 pulmonary embolisms which could have been fatal. I don't want to scare you but just be aware. Other causes are being more tired due to increased blood flow, anemia, keep an eye on when you experience it if you have been busy and just sat down its prob nothing to worry about but if your just sat and finding it hard to catch your breath I'd get it looked into@

Hmmm I was just going to say this hun...that I get this too. Sometimes Im just sitting and get really breathless and feel a bit panicky...so have to sit forward as thought maybe lungs are squashed between boobs and bump....but a bit  at above post!! Is best to be safe than sorry though is suppose! But yes I do get the breathlessness and racing heart. and we are quite close to each other! Lets see what some of the other tri 3 ladies say! :) xxxxx

I am 32+4 days. I do have a snotty nose but I don't feel like I have a cold. I have got up and had a wash, eaten breakfast and then washed up and I am now watching tv. My heart starts racing and then I find it hard to breath. I take some deep breaths which help and then it goes off. But within 10mins it happens again. My iron levels are fine as I had them checked last week plus I am taking my multi vitamins. It doesn't seem to happen when I am doing things which I find strange. Seeing my mw on tue so I will mention it to her but I will keep my eye on it and if it gets worse i will get checked out.

I bet that was a shock finding out that. My nan suffered with them for years, in her lungs. Lets hope your don't suffer with it in this pregnancy Hun. Things we have to do and go through xx take care xx

Pretty much the same as me hun. Sometimes if iv done too uch I have to sit down to catch my breath, but the ones where you are just sitting are strange and annoying! I also have to take deep breaths for it to pass...poor OH thinks Im having contractions haha xxx

Yes when it happens I have to sit forward as I feel I am being squashed. It's not nice at all. I have felt lo kicking my ribs the last few days, she must of grown under there now as my bump is bigger at the top. Sure is a shock about the other ladies post must of been a horrible time to go through with the rest of the pregnancy niggles. We can be breathless together lol x

I would be unlucky to get them again as I have to inject with blood thinners. I just wanted you to be aware hun they are very common in pregnancy. I had it lying in bed too. Only other thing I have heard can make you breathless is acid reflux or indigestion don't know if that could be connected

That's good then pickle, at least it's one less thing to have to worry about. I think it's just another thing to have to deal with. Thank goodness I have only 7 weeks to go!! X

I don't have a bump buddie, so you be my breathless buddie. Had me laugh lol. We sure do learn lots when pregnant but by the end of it we will have forgot lol due to our pregnancy brains lol xx

Do you have asthma?
My mw sent me to the doc due to this and he upped my inhalers.

Hey ive been getting palpitations (heart racing, feeling hot and dizzy and like I cant breathe) - always when im sat chilling out either at work or watching TV - never when im exercising or sleeing and not related to feeling anxious.

I mentioned it to the midwife who said it can be normal but wanted me to go to GP to get checked out as if it happened in labour they might get a bit worried. I went to GP today and he said he wasnt concerned but he is still wanting to do further checks in case there is something underlying - so im having an ECG and a 24 hr tape daily for one week.

So in answer - its probably normal related pregnancy thing but go and get it checked as they seem to prefer to exclude other causes first incase there is something underlying or more sinister.

Im not worried but glad im getting checked! Hope you get checked too!x

I have experienced both breathlessness and heart racing when resting whilst being preg also - it's never been bad enough to scare me but I did ask mw and she said its normal xxx

I did mention this to my mw and she said could be do to low iron. My iron level came back normal. She didn't seem worried about it. If it gets worse i will see my gp. Thanks ladies xx

Hi hun, I get this and there is nothing wrong with my lungs etc. I go up stairs and need an oxygen bottle, lay in bed and feel like my heart is going to beat out my chest or feel its getting crushed from doing nothing. My blood pressure is normal so I think it's one of those 'pregnancy' things we have to deal with. If your worried just mention it to your midwife if your worried. :) xxx

Hey buddy, well late last night I dropped off to sleep and woke up with such a scare my heart was racing and I couldn't catch my breath. I thought my heart was going to come out my chest and I just thought I was going to die :( hubby was out playing footy, when he got back I was in a right state. I was scared to go back to sleep incase it happened again or I died. But luckily it didn't and I have been quite busy this morning so I havnt noticed feeling to breathless.

Thanks for messaging buddy. Hope your ok?? Xx

Awww hun that sounds really scary. Wonder if its more of a panic attack kind of thing...as scary for you to wake up feeling like that... :( def mention it to mw when you have ur next appointment. Iv had one time where I took a migraine pill that didnt agree with me, got palpitations and I thought if I went to sleep I would die...horrible feeling! Yeah Im ok thanks sweets...baby boy moving lots today...hurts a tiny bit when he stretches out to my right side. lol xxx

I get palpitations that make me breathless for a while and sometimes wake me up, MW said it was normal as our hearts are pumping round a lot more blood and our lungs are getting squashed, she advised me to get checked by the gp just in case which I did and everything is ok.
