As you know we have Connor in the moses basket in our room with us at night and I'm starting to realise that I wake up if he so much as sighs in his sleep.

Subsequenly I'm frequently checking on him when he's really just making "settling down" noises.

DH can sleep through the grunts and groans quite happily and only wakes up when Connor really starts to kick off and cry - whichi s probably what I should be doing as the midwife told me right for the start when you first put him down and he's having a whinge, leave him to it and let him settle himself.

I was so tired last night and Hubby ended up doing both the 1.00am feed and the 4.00am feed (which is usually my shout). He's still in bed and I feel terrible because I have to wake him in a minute so he can go to the stables and muck out my horse for me!! (Still can't drive for another three weeks due to blimming C-Section!!)

Do you other girls have ears on elastic for their babies? I wish I could tune out the whinging and just wake up when he cries.

He's just a naturally noisy sleeper I think!!!

He makes just as much noise when he goes down in his basket for daytime naps, but that doesn't bother me quite so much - probably because I'm not trying to get to sleep during the daytime!!!

Any ideas/advice??

i wake at every grizzle, but i am a light sleeper.

it took ages for me to tell the difference between a grizzle and a i need food cry. but it did get easier!

i read somewhere that babies tend to stur once an hour and go back to sleep

Feels like every 5 minutes not once an hour Sam!!!

We're trying to set a little routine now - he sleeps downstairs in his moses basket during the day (and sits in his bouncy chair if he's awake), then when he has his 8.00pm feed we put him upstairs in our room in his basket with the baby monitor on. He settled really well in this the last few nights.

We've been trying a dummy to soothe him, but as soon as he drops it we have to traipse upstairs and put it back in so we're knocking that on the head unless he's crying!!!

I suppose it's still early days for us- he's only three weeks old today!!

i on tend to wake up when she cries but i used to be up all the time, it does get better xx

aww

it does get easier huni.

its your mothering instincts to wake at any noise. so you are alert to protect him if needed.

just try and nap during the day.

try to get him to suck hishand instead. i didn't want to use a dummy, so i swaddledalice in a thin cloth with her hands close to her face. some times worked.

i've caved in since and got dummies :) alice ends to only have them when she iswaiting for a feed, or dropping iff to sleep. i take it out when she is asleep.

I'm exactly the same. He just seems to squeek and grunt all night long and i can't sleep till hes gone off propaly. DH sleeps through everything so he hasn't even done 1 night feed yet cos he never wakes up and i jump up straight away so he doesn't wake Aimee.

I was exactly the same, it got so bad i had to put Charlie into his own room at 7 weeks as i was so exhausted, i have one of the monitors with the breathing sensor pad which gave me peace of mind a bit but i was getting virtually no sleep with him beside me, mind you i still hear him stirring its just easier to drift back off as he is not right there.

Luckily Zac is quite a sound sleeper that or im just too knackered to hear him!!

He often stirs at about 5ish but most of the time goes back to sleep although that always wakes me up

I am still like it! Thankfully as they get older they make less noise while sleeping. Ellie sleeps in her own room and we use a baby monitor, which I can turn down very low so only the louder noises disturb.

The other night she was having trouble settling after her feed at ~4:30am. She had already woke and cried out for a bit before I went in. I gave her a nappy change, fed her put her back down came back to bed and she started crying about 5mins later. My OH finally wakes up at this point and says "Ellie is crying". Yes I know she has already had a nappy change and a feed so I was leaving her a couple of minutes to see if she was going to settle herself.
