ive been told ill prob have a prem again , probably earlier next time so may well ahve a 30 weeker , it does scare me but not enough to not want another , i might be the small percentage that doesnt get hellp again ( but its hugely likely i will has it how my body reacts to the hormones) .
I had my first baby at 34 weeks and am now 23 weeks pregnant with my second. I met with the consultant last week and was told that the reason I probably had my first baby earlier was because of an infection, probably group b strep.
For this pregnancy they are giving me two extra scans at 28 and 34 weeks and at each midwife appointment I have to have a swab test done to check for infection. They said to me that if it was group b strep last time, I will definitely not have an early birth this time as they will be on top of it. We shall see!
They will definitely look after you for your next baby though. They have been really good for me.
My s-in-law's first baby was born at 24 weeks about 4 years ago - unfortunately he did not survive. They were never able to find out why he had been born so early. Their second baby was born at 28 wks and is now almost a year old and doing absolutely fine. Again, there is no explanation for the early delivery. They had weekly check-ups all throughout her second pregnancy, including lots of scans and everything was progressing fine. In fact she had just had a check-up the day before she went into labour.
my first was born at 30 weeks and i was told the same as you and now im expecting my second and im really nervouse im hoping i will get to full term but i guess we will just have to see

thanks for your reply. its hard to deal with when they tell you there was no reason sometimes i wish there was a reason so then maybe you know what to do next time!! i hope all goes well for you and you go full term .
I was told there was no reason for Austins early arrival as there was no infection, but my low progesterone levels were the reason I kept miscarrying before him. I took pessaries of progesterone in the 1st trimester with Austin which made him stick but was told that was all I needed to do. When the hospital gave me some literature on reasons for early birth progesterone levels were in there as a really big contributing factor. I am meeting with the Obsteotrician soon to determin if this may have been the reason. I would urge anyone who has been told they don't know the reason to look into progesterone levels too as this seems to be slightly overlooked. On the other hand if they find nothing please try to be relaxed. The staff at my scubu said they rarely saw return mothers and that most women go on to carry full term second time round.
I probably won't be able to have another pregnancy without worry either. I guess we have to find a way through one way or another with everything crossed for a healthy baby. I just feel so lucky that Austin is here now and am so pleased for all of you who post here too.We are just so lucky to have our little angels!!!
