Further to my colonoscopy in December, I have to go for a barium enema tommorow, started my 33 hours of starvation at 7am, I am off work as I have just taken my first strong laxative, with another at 7pm tonight :(

Mum has Ruby until OH gets home from work, and I am lying on the bed with a stack of magazines to keep me amused, and my PC of course!!

Anyone else had one, are they as horrible as I am imagining it to be?? I was under for the colonoscopy so dont remember any of it, but I will be awake tomorrow :?

I had one when i was 15 - wasnt the most pleasant of experiences hun but you get through it.

Hope it all goes well - just think happy thoughts. Hope your tummy isnt doing cartwheels today too bad xx

Zoe! You poor thing!
Remember...anything to do with your bum...I'm your girl!
Yes, I've had a barium enema.
It's not painful, just uncomfortable. You lie on your side and they put a tube up your bum which makes you feel like you want to do a poo! Then they pass the barium in which just feels a bit cold. Afterwards, they send you straight to the loo so you can poo it all out!
They also roll you around when the barium's inside to make sure it spreads around inside properly.
Nowhere near as bad as I imagined and all over pretty quickly.
Good luck! Let me know how you get on.
L xx

I've had a few cos of my Crohn's... they are far nicer than a barium follow through.... thats where you have to drink the barium and in my case wait hours for it to go through having regular x rays.... Don't worry you'll be absolutely fine....just don't stray too far from the toilet...

Just had the second sahet of picolax, the first made me feel soo ruff, I spent most of the afternoon in the loo or asleep!!

I am soooooooooooooooooooo hungry now too :( I am already dreaming of what I will eat tomorrow afternoon. Hozzie at 2pm so on the way home I am stopping at subway for a footlong turkey salad, toasted with cheese and then a chicken foo yeung for tea!!!

I am watching Master Chef now too, I really am torturing myself :rotfl:

Thanks for your replies ladies, I am not dreading it as much now

Had a smear this morning too, its been a right sh*tty day (literally :rotfl: )

awww hun, good luck tomorrow u deserve all that yummy food tomorrow.

We are watching masterchef also and OH has gone to get chips its made him hungary too but he has no excuse he has had his tea fat b*tard!! lol :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've had one before and didnt think it was too bad. I go for colonoscopies but when they just give me sedation I can still feel everything so I now have to have generals when I go. I definetely don't think it's anywhere near as bad as the colonoscopy - hope it goes ok for you xx

Oh I hate picolax too - I fainted the first time and it was not a pretty sight! I dread seeing the brown envelope coming through the door

That picolax is horrendous! That's probably worse than the enema!

Anyway, good luck today Zoe! Hope it goes ok. xxx

The first time I got that picolax through the door was shortly after September 11 and all those packages being sent to people with Anthrax in them... warnings went out to people who were receiving any packages with powder in them... and a couple of days later... I get a packet with powder in it :rotfl: :rotfl: Took me days to get the courage to open it until I convinced myself I wasn't important enough to kill... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for the replies and experiences, it went fine today..I spent all morning feeling weak and miserbale (I hadnt eaten since 8pm Monday night and the picolax had made me feel dreadful this time :( )

My appointment was 2pm, and I was on my way home by 2.45pm.

It wasnt half as bad as I imagined, they gave me an injection of muscle relaxant so the tube didnt hurt, but I found the air being blown in soo uncomfy!!!

I went straight to Subway and demoilished a foot long sub of the day in about 30 seconds and just finished a chicken foo yung for tea so I am felling normal again :D

Got to wait 2 weeks for results, my specialist will write to me

Thanks again, I dont know what I would do without you girls
