Just wondering if anyone has used the cow and gate step 2 for there baby around the 3 weeks mark!
The reason i ask is because i dont think the step one is enough for my baby boy!
He has 4 oz every 2-3 hours but is twisting for more after 1 hour but i try and deter him as i dont want to be constantly feeding him!
I know you can use step 2 from birth as it says on the tin but im just wondering if anyone on here has and how they found it!
He would probably drink more than 4 oz at one time but i dont think his tummy is big enough to take it as he cries in pain after 4oz im my opinion that is but if he could i rekon he would drink more but his tummy just carnt take it!
He has no problems with his wind as im using dr browns bottles and infacol if he crunches into a ball which isnt very often to be honest and his really good at geting his wind up after each feed any advice greatly received thanks kelly xxx

Does he refuse to eat more after 4oz? I feed Gabrielle as much as she likes whenever she asks for it. She's on expressed breastmilk and I don't know if you should do things differently with formula. I think the average baby at 3 weeks drinks 24oz a day. In order to have an average there must be babies that eat a lot more than this to balance the ones that need less. Gabrielle drinks about 5oz a day more than the average baby. So I would suggest just feeding as much as he wants, when he wants it.

I would speak to your HV. We were advised against it (by the HV and family members who formula fed) because it can cause constipation when your baby is so young. There are people out there it has worked for, though. At this stage you really just have to feed on demand.

Have you tried him with more as kalia says? Usually if it doesn't fit they'll bring it back up again.

I was really tempted to do the same but decided not to as I saw what my cousin went through with a constipated baby. We found that things have really settled down now and although she still feeds every 3-4 hours in the daytime we now get a big stretch of 6 hours at night from 9pm-3am and occasionally longer.

ive given him more milk at sometimes he will drink it other times hes drinkn it but crying so that to me makes me think he wants it but his tummy just cannot take anymore

If his tummy can't take it he will just throw it back up!

Jacob was having 4 to 5oz every 2 to 3 hours at that age  He was a very hungry baby, I fed him on demand. I manage to get him to 9 weeks on the first milk before changing him to the second.

If Gabrielle cries during a feed it is because she needs winded. It can take a little while to get the wind up sometimes and she needs winded several times a bottle. But once it comes up she has a lot more space for food :D She doesn't crunch up though - because we wind her when her feeding gets silly it hasn't yet got to the point that it really hurts her.

Maybe try winding him if he seems in pain during a feed and then offering the bottle to him again.

Also, there were some days when Gabrielle wanted fed every hour - I don't know whether it was a growth spurt or she was thirsty because of the heat and I can't remember if it happened at 3 weeks but I think sometimes they just need to eat more.

Good luck!
